These things can and do trigger sometimes. They all have special triggers, but they are behind the scenes and not something we have access to. I can verify that they do get used from time to time. But it is probobably only like 10% of the time. I had Furnok say something once and I could never get him to say it again. I kept re-loading and he never did it again. It was strange. - Livonya
Nope. What she says depends on the location. She has different dlg lines for Hommlet, Nulb, Temple, etc and they're pretty random and will repeat the same one 3-4 times in a row. I just don't use the sound or dialogue anymore.
yeah i turn the game sound off too. that has always been the worst part of the game to me. great graphics with a poor sound track. there is really nothing to miss by having the sound off.
i tried playing the very first baldur gate very recently after finding it in the bargin bin. It was nice, but it was so dated, and used second edition rules (which i did not know enough of, or have sufficient internal documentation to properly use). I ended up abandoning it.
George, Liv, thanks for the feedback. I agree that stuff like location things get used (Meleny saying 'ooo i have never been here before' at the moathouse, etc) i was simply making the point that certain kinds, like death throes, need for healing, battle cries etc seem to almost never come out (and by almost never i mean occasionally for some like Zaxis, not at all in my experience for many others). They may be what Gaear had in mind for mp3's that don't seem to be used. If they are 'behind the scenes' and can't be reliably hacked then I guess its not worth worrying about. Like most games, I keep the sound low but don't mind the voices. I think the voices themselves are pretty good, even if the voice acting is largely poor. Probably I would keep Fruella in the party if i had the sense to turn the sound down ;-) I played it thru twice, really enjoyed it. The combat engine's not a patch on ToEE though. Couldn't stand TotSC, gave up very quickly on the Tower thing - repetitive and a real wasted opportunity for what it might have been (imho).
I've also had Zaxis say this when he was reduced to 0 hit points (disabled), haven't noticed any others that work though.
i liked BG 1 i really liked BG 2 but i found the throne of bhaal to be a disappointment. the only things i liked about it was the endings and the guy the fixed things for you, cant remember his name. "hmmm never done anything like this before could be messy. what are you some kinda sissy". his remarks kept me laughing alot
Liv, Does this mean that you could concievably add an appropriate sound to the Scorching Ray spell? The fact that it's silent has always sort of bugged me. Likewise with your traps going off . . . I feel cheated that I don't get to hear the sound of all those hitpoints going down the drain.
I am truly stunned by the depth of truth contained herein, urrgh, somewhere herein or close by to herein, or ... whatever. Now, romances, sounds great. Only, to keep to the spirit of the game, we'd have to have gay romances and lesbian romances and triangles and group romances, so nobody gets offended, and can we add the sheep from the bordello? Heee-heee-heee! :dying with laughter: :friend casts resurrect: :sheep jump on head, offended by not being allowed to have intimacy:
Can you tell me how to do this? I just want to add one of the standard voices to ShiningTed's Pishella and I can't figure out how to do it. I'm on her column in protos and everything.
Protos is only involved as far as calling scripts is concerned (i.e. san_dialog, san_dying, etc.). Most of the donkey work is done in the .py files and the .dlg files, and then the coresponding sound files. ShingingTed's blog has some great tutorials for dialog and script writing. Check them out. If you still have questions, ask them in the General Modification section.
Well ur hunting up all the relevant old threads CamelotCrusade, I'll give you that Edit: just re-read this thread, those were exciting times :drunk:
