Patch 3.0.3 beta has been posted at http://briefcase.yahoo.com/tbrister@sbcglobal.net. I marked it as beta because I only tested far enough to insure that the game will still load up and run. I'll try and test more tommorrow, but if anyone wants to download it and test it out (I'm leaving 3.0.2 posted for download as well, so you can revert) it'd be a huge help. There's a changelog file that will go in the ToEE directory that lists the minor changes made, and also if anyone finds new bugs let me know.

    zhuge:

I was having trouble with ProtoEd myself...I don't think it's file specific, for me it was corrupting InvenSource.mes. I edited it with notepad and it was fine. I think ProtoEd has trouble with certain constructions or file sizes...not sure.

Well can't really say for sure. I almost always use Notepad to edit .mes and .dlg files. The lack of any formatting may be the cause why it is safer. Some files are large and may require Wordpad but from what I've seen in the past, Wordpad appears considerably more prone to corruption so be very careful when using it.

Phalzyr's ToEE Proto Editor has become the standard here for editing .tab files. It's pretty stable and can also edit .mes files. Haven't had any problems prior to the 2nd official patch so that makes me wonder if recent changes for the 2nd official patch have had anything to do with this. Just a wild guess but anyway, what I do is I save after making all changes, close the file and ProtoEd and then open up the file again to see if the changes have been kept and everything else looks Ok. If it looks Ok, I make a test run to see if the exe is able to load the edited files and load a saved game to see if the changes have been implemented as hoped.
Sometimes when you are switching between directories, you may load the wrong protos.tab by mistake, thereby saving the changes in another protos.tab.

EDIT: Was mucking around when I saw seraglio encountered basically the same problem that you did:

Have a look at his 3rd post in the thread above and also Phalzyr's comments.

I really want to use this patch but I have no idea what to do with the files. Last patch I used was way back in the version 1 era and there was an installer available for that.

Can someone give me detailed instructions on what goes where?

v3.0.3 isn't stable yet so if you want to download something now, it has to be v3.0.2.

You can download it from the following places:
    http://briefcase.yahoo.com/tbrister@sbcglobal.net
    http://www.sharemation.com/zhuge/ToEE_Circle_of_Eight_Release_302.rar
    http://128.100.179.48/files/ToEE_Ci...Release_302.rar
    http://home.comcast.net/~jewellgm/ToEE_Circle_of_Eight_Release_302.rar

If you don't have WinRaR (which provides better compression) and don't want to download it, there are also zipped versions here:

    http://128.100.179.48/files/toeeco8v302.zip
    http://gamegestapo.com/downloads/TOEE_Co8_302.zip

After you download it, unrar (or unzip) it and copy over the files and folders there to the Temple of Elemental Evil directory.

Basically you'll only need to copy over the data folder. If you already have a Temple of Elemental Evil/data folder, it is well advisable that you make a backup of it first in case you want to restore the original settings quickly.

The v3.0.2 is meant to be compatible with the 2nd official patch so some redundant fixes were eliminated. Make sure you patch your game with the 2nd official patch before applying the v3.0.2 mod pack.
