From the 13th Warrior...(sorry to any purists out there; my recall isn't quite perfect)

Ahmed Ibn Fahdlan: "I can can taste neither the fermentation of grapes, nor of wheat..."

    Viking: "Honey...it's made from HONEY!"

    Ahmed: "Honey?!? Gulp...gulp...gulp..."

    :drunk:

    ====================

It must be because this place is soo popular that it was chosen for this posting. I think it's funny as hell; and I hope they fucking read it. A truce?...don't make me laugh. They wanted death...and they got death coming. That bastard should have spent his wealth and used his fame to build schools and work to reform things without resorting to such cowardly methods. And don't think for a second that he won't light off any kind of bomb he's got in any major city he can sneak one into. Talk of peace with this abomination (or his flunkie information mongers) is wasted breath. Now, maybe once they're dead, we can talk to others of his people who have a different mindset.

yggdrasil makes some awesome mead, especially their dry mead.

mix that half n half with a good, heavy dark ale or stout and woo boy

it does get too sweet after a while, but damn.

Re: the last sonic message of OUSSAMA BEN LADEN

This guy probably spammed a thousand forums, and is long gone... he ain't reading any of this. But turning it into a beer thread is a damn fine idea :D

Like every single Australian male since the dawn of time, I have dabbled in home brew. Only did a couple batches (though helped my da do them for years). Unlike most, I never had the need to add ludicrous amounts of sugar in the attempt to create 20% beer or any such silliness, as such I created potent and quite pleasant ales. I also had very few exploding bottles ;) I used to mix stout and bitter to create very nice 'old' ales.

I recommend using dextrose rather than white sugar, and investing in a keg to 'bottle' in, rather than washing / capping bottles. Never did it, but someone recommended it to me and it seemed a great idea. Also a fridge just for the keg ;)

O and the 9-11 bombers went out on the piss the night before. Good muslims my a$$, they were just f%^$ing savages, who, alas, are undoubtedly burning in a very hot hell right now, no matter what your understanding of the afterlife.
That really was a fine movie, might be time for me to see it again.

20% beer? that could be really good if done right. sort of like a fine port.
i've hd one that was sort of like a belgian rochefortbut had a much longer lasting aftertaste of raisins and cherries.
very delicious with dark chocolate ice cream for dessert that one was.

    mmmm.

My brother made ginger beer, not quite the same as regular beer, but it was 16% alcohol!

"Rochefort...isn' that a kind of a smelly cheese?"

(Apologies to Blair, for ripping off his movie quotes...)

Allyx...Master Crafter  / Master Brewer...? I dunno. I'd call what he made ale, rather than beer...you know; Ginger Ale?

Re: the last sonic message of OUSSAMA BEN LADEN

actually, the difference between ginger ale and ginger beer today is that ginger ale is usually referred to as a soft drink, containing very little (if any) alcohol, while ginger beer isn't necessarily sweet and hs historically had very high alcohol content.
it's a bit difficult to get ginger beer most places nowadays.

    [edit]
oh hehe and yes i believe you can get rochefort cheese too, to compliment the ale. i don't think i've tried it though.

Now, you see...it was supposed to be sort of a humorus play on words & their meanings. You actually explaining it correctly does absolutely nothing to further the attempt at humor.

Sadly, if either you, or I (or, saints forfend BOTH of us) have to explain it, then I guess it wasn't that damn funny to begin with. Besides, we all here in the States know that in order for a beer to be soft, it must be preceeded by the word "root".

All of the radical militant muslims who committed suicide by crashing the planes in to the twin towers on 9/11/2001 did more than go out and have a few alcoholic drinks. It was reported from the ensuing investigation that all of them went together to an erotic strip club...they experienced lots of alcohol, lots of very loud 'Western' metal/rock/hiphop/dance music, and lots of private nude lapdances the night before their demonic led actions and deeds.

Let me for the record state, that beers with an alcohol percentage (vol) of 20 are, tastewise, closer to spirits such as vodka and whisky, than anything else. I figured this out the hard way. Possibly the vilest crap I have ever tasted :eek:mg:

beers with 20 vol. are difficult to make right, but when they ARE done right, they can be REALLY good...
