Very likely. I too had some problems with that. Luckily I uninstalled that (format c and yaay it work great now
i checked my files right now in case i might have infected data but no i dont have. i have avast! v4.8 professional and my av software haven't found any threats in either installation programs (zip & rar archives) nor the game folder so i'd say it something about You, your PC, Your dowloads, Your CD's or Your AntiVirus. Try what I did: scan every archive before you install it and then when your installation is complete scan whole game folder including frontends, If there is problem write here which files are infected.
@tom: Doesn't it feel strange that the alerts have started going on from the last few days? Just for your sake I did a check on my PC twice and there are no viruses in the Co8 patches. If your anti-virus is detecting anything other than a trojan in the toee.exe (and if it does you can be sure you don't have the original .exe) it may be detecting suspicious behaviour of the front-end. After all it alternates your game's directory structure, copies files in order to run mods. Also, to make sure... could you tell us what's the size of your ToEE.exe?
Well, I don't use antiviruses anymore...they screw up the computer worse then a virus. Certainly Avast which after a while says that everything which is not windows-based is a virus... So, now you're thinking prolly why I'm not scared on the internet? Because I format about twice a year, and I know a safe site or link from an unsafe one. Not really exact science, I know, but I'm glad having my sixth sense.
Thanks to all who have run virus checks on my behalf. I uninstalled everything after i got the virus warning. Also ordered a new copy of toe from a different vendor on ebay (should be getting it Tuesday). If i install that and don't get the virus warning it will show that the first version was dodgy.
My version of ToEE has .dll and .exe combined, hence I continue to receive the magic missle bug and can't loot properly since it isn't using the co8 mod .dll file (at least thats what I understand from reading post #4 on this thread http://www.co8.org/forum/showthread.php?t=1856) On GcW, the .exe within the devtep2 also creates an alert (false positive, who knows:shrug: ) and AVG (7.x) wants to heal/contain it. It believes it to be a .WNJ(?) trojan No co8 files have reported any viruses whatsoever. I'm going to give it a go and see if I can get it to launch.
It's been uploaded on virustotal, and 12/32 of the scanners said it's infected. So about 37% give it thumbs down. Could either be a false positive or a damn good virus.
Welcome to One and All. Concerning this event, my main system running xp with NIS 2008 installed (system and software built, patched by me) showed no problems at all. I had a hunch though and quickly put together a win 98 second edition out of spare parts, installed NIS 2005 (a hunch) installed TOEE with all patches, co8 packs everything needed to play. LO and Behold received a Ranky Virus warning from NIS. I believe this is a false positive being given off by a component within windows itself that is shared by both xp and 98 and, with recent patches to xp and NIS 2008 was or will be resolved.
The GcW noCd ToEE.exe works. However, I was not able to get ToEE running with the 33kb .exe while I had AVG 'installed' The game would also not run using this noCD with AVG disabled.:shrugno: My inference is that AVG kept bothering the 33kb ToEE.exe* So after uninstalling AVG, and doing a reinstall of ToEE following Zeb's instructions as usual except for one thing**, I was able to get the game running smoothly, with the Allyx mod for shopping before the opening vignette. I was not getting this before, in addition to the magic missile and no loot error problems due to the 1MB> ToEE.exe file for my version. After reading helpful threads it was explained to me that the co8 module would not run properly due to the temple.dll being combined with the default large ToEE.exe, therefore not utilizing the right .dll ->so you must use the small 33kb noCD ToEE.exe in this case,,,, *While AVG was installed or disabled, the 33kb ToEE.exe file did not have the custom icon (just that generic white box w/ blue header) / when AVG was gone from my system, the custom icon was restored. **I got the CTD after the opening videos played problem. On another clean reinstall I applied the 33kb patch after the co8 mod installation; that worked for my computer anyways. Wow, great mod, thanks a bunch:thumbsup: Try everything~!
Thanks for looking into the matter so closely, guys. We'll sticky this thread until the crisis has passed. (Hopefully it will.)
My Avast 4.8 Home Edition for my XPsp2 finally gave me the Trojan alert right after its latest virus update.
