You'd have to have the Paladine as an NPC character.

Paladins don't function as hired mercs.

At least as far as this game goes (Paladin NPC) is an unlikely character to run across, unless he's a random monster you encounter. Then there could be some sort of reason he'd join your group.

Originally in hte module: Elmo was a secret agent-ranger. his brother otis was also an agent. Elmo played a drunk, but you could not he got drunk too easy and stuff.

Intent is very important, but it's hard to put into perspective in this type of game vs., say, tabletop play. I'd simply add that if they were consistently behaving in a manner that was rowdy, the paladin would leave. He'd definetly take them to task for being disruptive the first few occasions. Some might not say anything, and just leave them one day, while others might get preachy. All of this would be impossible to script, but I think a set of simpler responses could be fashioned that might satisfy those who believe one or two offenses is being too strict. Definetly something to contemplate.

would it be to hard to add an "if paladin in party" line to that bit of dialogue between innkeeper and PC for the paladin to voice his objections before the drinking contest kicks off?

I'd agree with that. A verbal dissent should be enough if there is a paladin inthe party.

plus he would not do the drinking.

it'd have to be an uptight Paladin to get anal about his associates drinking.

i've met people that would be like that, actually.

intent can't be read into in the game though. unless the dialog leaves an option.

Agreed; but we're not talking about wine with dinner, or even happy hour after a hard day in the dungeon. This is a contest between the guy who works in the brewery & anyone who'll try to drink him under the table. All the participants are probably going to wind up shit faced.

True, but I cannot see a Paladin walking out on a group over something like this. Perhaps getting pissed off and retiring to the parties room for the night, then making jabs now and again at the pisspot about his/her actions, but actually leaving and especially falling?

In any case, this whole thing is academic. It cannot be changed so thats that.

Check out post #17 above & you'll see startling similarities between your line of thinking on this & mine. Issues would not become exacerbated if people would simply read further than the most recent post.

well this thread is starting to disintergrate into another paladin war rather than an actual list of events which will cause a paladin to fall so I think its about time it got locked.
