I'm seriously considering remaking those containers anyway, there have been a lot of new weapons and armour added to the game recently, and it might just prove easier to start from scratch than to add in the new additions to the old container mobs.

The description of the tower shields says that they give a -2 to hit, but they don't. Also, is there supposed to be a feat for tower shields?

Tower shields don't work as they should, yes they should give -2 to attack rolls, but don't, yes they should require a feat to use them but they don't, currently the only disadvantage to using them is that they weigh so much, and AFAIK, we've tried fixing them, but failed. :(

Hey! Turn that frown upside down. ;)

I was just mentioning to remove the -2 comment from their description. I assumed it hadn't/couldn't/wouldn't be implemented. Easier to modify the description than the shield itself.

I like to keep my descriptions "tidy". Good job on adding them though for all the items; much nicer than before. :)

EDIT: I just had a thought. Some might not find it kosher since it isn't by-the-book, but if you want to implement some kind of penalty for tower shields, how's about a -1 level penalty? Yeah, it would also lower hit points and saves, but it would certainly make you think twice before wielding one.

Not so fond of that solution, to say the truth. I'd rather remove completely all tower shields from the game since they are completely bugged. They don't give penalty and they can be used despite needing a specific feat. For me, reasons enough to eliminate them completely (if fixing doesn't work).

The engine doesn't distinguish between tower shields and other shields, so if we activated the feat we couldn't get it to do anything anyway.

Have we tried giving them an attack bonus of -2? Or is this the whole "shields can't attack, no shield bash for you" issue? I only ever looked into the feat.

Adding To Hit Bonus -2 to tower shields doesn't seem to work. :/

Maybe someone could write a script which would give a To Hit Penalty
on use and remove it when the shield is taken off? Is that possible?

Another solution would possibly be a dll hack... I was thinking of bucklers.
They give a -1 penalty to Hit Bonus whenever a large weapon is wielded...
Would it be possible to use it as a base for a line referring to tower shields?

We would also need a way of activating maxdex flag for shields... it's kind
of strange it doesn't work because all of the protos items have been
assigned with some kind of penalty (well, it's 100, but it nevertheless is).

Just a reminder for the future: Cujo's new weapons
have not got their feats enabled (using unedited 5.0.4
    dll).

Before anyone asks, Cujo's new weapons are indeed in KotB but no, I haven't enabled the feats yet. Its on my to-do list - I want to do all the dll hacks at once, as there is a few yet to do for KotB.
Still no, because there is no seperate 'Tower Shield' handle to set in the protos.tab that would allow the engine to differentiate between them and normal shields. As far as the game is concerned, they are like every other shield (unlike bucklers, which have their own armour type setting thing).

Actually, I've told u that b4 Maggit :p But the buckler idea shows you are thinking  We may yet get around this somehow.
Also a good idea - the problem is, if we can't put the bonus on the shield, what do we put it on? We can apply it directly to the character, but they stack, so if the character swaps in and out a lot (between sword + board and a long-bow, for instance), he's very quikcly going to have internal bonuses that say

    -2 +2 -2 +2 -2 +2 -2 +2 -2 +2 -2 +2 -2 +2 -2 +2 -2 +2 -2 +2 -2 +2 -2 +2

which will start to put some performance wear on the charcater in combat, as the engine has to calculate all that for every hit.

Presumably we can create an 'invisible' item in a hidden slot with a -2 bonus and have it create / destroy as the item gets equipped, depending on whether the character has the feat. One thing to check for - do fighters automatically get the feat? I will enable the feat and see. If not, a quick fiddle with the Jade Empress can add it to them.

This suggestion ('invisible' items in unseen slots) gets bandied around a lot, usually by me. Time to see if it works, I think: once it has been done once, we can just copy the script and use it as needed.

That's strange... I checked it with featactivator... o_O
I'll check whether they are available in-game....
Wait... You gave us a new dll file with the weapon fix,
right? Maybe Al forgot to put it in...?

EDIT1:They are not. I'll try putting in your dll from the weapon
    pack itself.

EDIT2:Yup, they are enabled in your weapon pack. The co8 5.0.4
    has the standard 16.0.3 dll.

Maggit - if you have feat enabler there, can you enable Tower Shield Proficiency (342) and see if fighters automatically get it?

Unfortunately, no. They can choose it from the overall pool of
    feats. :/

Well there you go: thats a pain, but we can try the Jade Empress thing (I have a script somewhere to get her to seek out halflings and give them proficiencies in something or other - its a pretty straightforwared thing). The only downside is that it won't show in the feats list: people playing fighters will just have to know it is working :)

Maggit, one more request while you have that .dll hacked - can you check whether someone like a wizard (who does not have a shield proficiency) can just up and grab it, or whether they are required to have shield proficiency first (as pre the rules).

Yes, they can. It seems that Troika was planning on doing the
feat and they ran out of development time... Heh... They only
managed to put it on the list...
