Let's please not divert this thread again into a general troublehsooting one. @sirchet, thanks for the info so far, it's very helpful. Could you try the following: 1. activate vanilla via TFE-X4 (exp build is fine, whatever you have in there). 2. reboot computer. 3. download the attachment and extract the contents into your ToEE root directory and overwrite. This is the previous version of TFE-X(3). 4. You will now be running TFE-X3 again. Activate 7.9 (and/or 7.8 and KotB, etc., the more the merrier) with TFE-X3 and then test and see if any problems arise. 5. in the case of testing 7.9, apply the help.tab fix from above after you've activated 7.9. 6. don't swap out .dlls or rename movies or anything like that. If you get a familiar-looking crash like from previous versions, do whatever you would have done before to get past that (dis/en-able movies) and see what happens. The rebooting step is important, because once the bug (whatever it is) happens, it seems to affect the system until it's rebooted, so fixing the bug without a reboot might not show the fix. Much appreciated - I know it's a pain in the butt to activate modules all day and sit around waiting.
Will do. And what was the exact path for the help fix install? I can't seem to find that post. EDIT: OK, followed your directions exactly as written and got the following results, activated 7.9NC. Rebooting before starting: 10 out of 10 starts and runs through intro, alignment and Homlette movies and can play. Not rebooting: 10 out of 10 crash at the end of initializing sector data. Again to be clear. System is i7 quad core nVidia graphics processor with scaling turned off. Win7 Premium running as admin. UAC is turned off.
So when using TFE-X3 after a reboot, 7.9 worked 100% of the time? Or are you saying you still had to reboot each time for it to work? [edit] If it's correct that you are having to reboot before each launch in order to get 7.9 to fly using TFE-X3, it would be interesting to know what happens with 7.8, KotB, etc. Reboot first before trying, of course. *Just to be clear re: reboots, what I'm asking for is simply one reboot after encountering a failure to launch, so that the system can be 'flushed,' as it were, of whatever system problem has been brought about. It should in no way be considered normal to have to reboot your system before every launch of the game.
I have a few appts today, but I will try to do some testing when I get back. In answer to your question, I had to reboot between each and every start of the game, although now I am seeing a few crashes in the same spot even with a reboot, (with 7.9NC and the old FE). I'm beginning to think that maybe the new HB is not meant for me to experience ... ever.

MOdpack 7.9 and TFE-X 4.0 were running fine. After I updated to TFE-X 4.6, it stopped working. temple.dll is apparently 0 kb in size. This happened at my first attempt. I did change to "max HP" options-? Neither file is in ESET's quarantine. Popup window says: ToEE Front-End X encountered a serious error. Attempt to move to a non-existent location in temple.dll The program is unable to continue and will now close. Please report this error as a bug at the Co8 community forum. Welcome to the forum tripwyre89. From looking at your log I see that your system is not allowing the front end access to the exe of the game. In order to avoid this kind of problem we recommend installing the game in any place EXCEPT program files, Win8, Win7 and Vista all like to restrict access to files in the program files directory. Myself, I created a new folder in my C drive and named it Games, then I redirected the GoG installer to that folder to install. I think this would also solve your problem. Also, if you already have it installed in the c drive, (or just not in program files) then right click on the temple of elemental evil folder and go to the security tab and make sure the user you log in as has unrestricted access to the folder, (should be a check in that box).
hey sirchet, thanks for the warm welcome, i anticipate alot of hours burned on this game so i wanted to get it right from the get go lol. ok, so firstly, i do have it installed in the C drive and if i run the program as administrator the beginning videos will play (giving me a glimmer of hope), but once it gets to the beginning sequence video before the begin game screen, the game will crash without letting me know why beyond "a problem with this caused the program to shut down". if i disable the intro, however, the program just crashes either way. any other ideas?
If you are running Vista, Win7, or Win8 right click on the front end icon and go to properties, then the compatibility tab, then down on the bottom place a check mark in the "always run as admin". I recommend not using any of the compatibility modes offered, if this doesn't do it you may have to hold on until the first patch is released, (which should be very soon).
