I figured out how to get my summoned familiar out of the inventory and onto the ground. But I cannot seem to return him to my backpack or unsummon him. If I choose his name from the radial menu, my sorc goes through the summoning animation again, but it seems there is no effect. Familiar is still there, and it seems he cannot be controlled during combat (and he makes a beeline for the nearest enemy, in spite of the fact that he is a rat). Any tips?
Use the radial menu and choose to talk to it. You can get it to go back into your pack. I personally would suggest you keep it in the pack or you will have chopped rat very quickly.
is summoning a familier worth the bother? the game manual says it gives you minor bonuses and that's it. am i wrong here?
A minor bonus sometimes is exactly what yare looking for. They usually give ya a +2 bonus in a skill - but i dint record wich familiar gives bonus for which skills - except for the toad, that confers 3 extra hp for his master, a good thing for any wizard or sorcerer! - plus the Alertness Feat (+2 in spot and +2 to listen). This all just for a slot in yer backpack? I think it worth the bother!
I couldn't find a list of which familiar gives which bonus in the TOEE ? section, so here it is from the 3.5 Player's Handbook: bat +3 listen cat +3 move silently hawk +3 spot in bright light Lizard +3 climb (there's no climb in TOEE - does anyone know what the bonus is in TOEE?) owl +3 spot in shadows rat +2 fortitude raven +3 appraise snake +3 bluff toad +3 hit points weasel +2 reflex
afair lizard gives a bounus to reflex saves but im not sure. though you can always take a look in the manual
The TOEE manual says in page 66 that Lizard gives you +2 bonus on Will save cheks. It also says that both hawk and owl gives you +3 on spot checks, as the dark vs. light is not implemented in the game.
There is a PDF file in your TOEE root directory called the manual... Edit. Even in my edition which I bought many years ago.
Thanks. Guess I should've poked around a bit more. I assumed the in-game manual had everything Troika had to offer.
In my current playthrough I have two arcane casters (a wizard and a rogue/sorcerer) and both have summoned a familiar. Wizard a toad, R/S a raven. Both receive the boni to spot and listen (+2) and the +3hitpoints (toad) or +2 appraise (raven) in their skills list - however in their feats list they don´t gain the "Alertness" feat. If that´s not possible due to technical limitations and the only way is to add the skillpoints in the skill list directly I can understand that. It´s just strange that the text in the ingame help menu (when clicking through classes, wizard or sorcerer, call familiar) says that they would gain the alertness feat.
I'm confused - you said they both get the +2 boniii to Spot and Listen which Alertness is....? :scratchhe
Conjurer, were you looking to get the feat listed under your characters feats? It shouldn't make a difference from a game rules standpoint. They just add the bonus via the familiar directly, instead of adding the feat. Actually, you can think of it as an advantage, since you can still take the Alertness feat too which will stack.
Yes both spellcasters do gain the benefits of the Alertness feat (which is added to their skills in the skills list) but not the feat itself (as it´s not added in the list of feats). Practically there is no difference except appearance and the help text stating that the spellcaster would gain the feat. If it´s not possible to add the Alertness feat in the feats list, could the help text be changed to say something like that they would gain the benefits of the alertness feat (instead of gaining the feat)? Edit: from help.tab Perhaps instead ...and the BENEFITS as if having the Alertness feat?
