I am at work, paying/not paying health insurance claims. I have a toothache and really don't want to do anything right now. If I get another dental claim, I am going to deny payment on it, just because my tooth is impacting right now. Who knows? It could be your claim!
Re: Work/job thread.... As previously stated, an Auto Insurance Litigation Specialist. For a Mid (not Non) Standard company. Now that's Lawful Evil! :evil_laug
Re: Work/job thread.... and I, I am ashamed to admit, once worked for an Insurance company as well. I held both the P&C and L&H licenses (thats Property insurance and Life/Health for the uninitiated) for 2 years. Got out when I began to fully understand it, and then couldn't ignore my conscience anymore. I consent to the previous labellings of Lawful Evil, definitely.
Re: Work/job thread.... Lol, I used to be a debt collector. Now there's chaotic evil for you. (trust me, debt collectors don't conform to enough 'laws' or even standards/guidelines to be lawful)
Re: Work/job thread.... In the arena of health insurance, I work for the biggest, and the thing that upsets me the most is the political intrigues of the !@#$%^& office. Without knowing first hand, I would guess that Hell's Court intrigues have nothing on these guys. Granted, I am in the lower echelon of demons, somewhere in the area right below a barbed devil. I report to a barbed devil, the barbed devil reports to a pit fiend, the pit fiend reports to a balor, the balor reports to Glasya, princess of hell and she reports to her father, Asmodeus. I am very expendable so I try to fly below the radar most of the time, except those special times when even us peons have to vent. It's really never a good thing to gain attention for yourself. I haven't been promoted to a barbed devil but I haven't been demoted to a dretch either. I'm content to remain where I am in the scheme of things. If I were thinking about trying to advance, I would go for the gusto and try to assassinate the balor (site director) and skip all the smaller steps. I think I might be an abishai but I'm not sure of the exact ranks and everything. But if I were an abishai, assassinating a balor would really be something! Lots of planning and preparation involved as well as a good portion of luck. Mostly luck, but the higher ups do have more skeletons in the closet to take advantage of, like knowing that the balor sometimes condescends to fool around with a big, fat, hairy, ugly abishai of my own rank and no, it isn't me.
Re: Work/job thread.... I also worked for an insurance company once. I was terrified the entire 3 weeks that I worked there. The relief when I left was palpable. Very. As far as office/agency politics goes...I have only worked at one place where there were no politics. And that was because there were only 2 employees. Me and the boss. However, as soon as 2 more people were hired, the politics began. Thanks for the laugh.
Re: Work/job thread.... I work among the self employed usually with a small team working against an impossible deadline with an implausible budget. It's all for one and one for all. It's always a shock when I work for a bigger concern with "middle management".
Re: Work/job thread.... For two days, I worked for a collections agency that tracked down people not paying their mortgage on their mobile/trailer homes. It was so bad what these people did to get people to pay. Here is a transcript of a coversation I heard that made me decide to quit on my 2nd day. *Phone Rings* *Little Boy Picks up the phone* Little Boy: Hello? Collections Guy: Hi is your mom or dad there? Little Boy: No Collections Guy: Well, what is your name? Little Boy: Tommy Collections Guy talking very forcefully: Well Tommy, I think you should start putting all of your toys in a box because your mom and dad wont pay their bills and we are going to throw you out of your house. Tommy began crying once he heard that then we hung up. I was disgusted and did not come back the next day. FYI, when collectors call you, or you call them back, they note everything you say. We had computer files of every phone number you ever called us from (we would call each back) and note everyone's name and do everything to track you down. They are pro's are finding you and your money.
Re: Work/job thread.... A man in San Antonio, who owned a debt collection agency, had borrowed 6 figures from my father, now deceased, to start that agency. Last month, he was inquiring if we were willing to settle that debt for a lesser amount. We are generally nice people, and would consider any reasoning that would bear on his request. But we were unable to settle for less than the full amount, especially considering that his income exceeded our four incomes combined. So, a small amount of turn-about in this generally justice-free world.
Re: Work/job thread.... Ooooo, I really hate that !@#$. It's one thing to settle accounts with insurance debts or credit card companies or bank loans, but when you try that henhouse !@#$ with a private party, that is exceptionally low. If this nucka makes more than 4 of you combined, that tells me he has adequate means to repay the loan or that you 4 are on welfare. I get the feeling that you guys are not all on welfare. Stick it to him, and remind him that if there was a contract involved, it would have a few interest rates tacked onto it, like late penalty fees and just the general interest rate that usually goes with every type of loan, somewhere in the range of 8-15%.
Re: Work/job thread.... Of course there's always those Sicilian backed-collection agencies that you could use.... :nervous:
