I've just seen the movie Kickass.
It's probably been out in the States for a while.
I think it's great action movie which isn't black or white, you can never relax into a go Arnie mode, you are always confronted by the fallout of violent acts of vengence.
    Anyone else seen it?

I've never seen the movie, however, I do own and recently watched all 3 of the Punisher movies, which can all be described as kickass. In case you have never seen them, they are all about a normal, everday joe who gets fed up with criminals getting away with everything under the sun because no one cares enough to do anything about it, until he decides to do the job good men were meant to do instead of talk about it and merely pretend to do it while getting paid for it.

    Bernard Goetz is my hero.

*viscious band of thugs hanging out on the subway* "Yo dawg, gimme fi dollas!"

*innocent prepared bystander starts counting up to 5 as he pulls a .357 from his briefcase* "Five." *BLAM, BLAM, BLAM, BLAM, BLAM, BLAM, BLAM, BLAM*

I saw one of the punisher movies on tv.
This is a bit different it's got a tremendous amount of violence in it.
But you see the effects of commiting extremely violent acts on the heros as well as the villians.
It's extremely well acted and directed.
It's kind of like a Shakespear play happening on many levels.

I like the .357 because of the nice work its rounds do. And it you can substitute cheap ammo when you go to target practice. (Don't even OWN a gun unless you practice with it regularly.) But I believe it's only a 6 shot. Furthermore, don't waste all your rounds on one target. It's amateurish.

I haven't seen "Kickass", but my son, who's in the GA too, wants to go see it. We both loved "Watchmen" because only one of the 'heroes' has super-human power. He keeps saying I am 'Rorsach'. I have to admit feeling certain feelings of gratitude when some turds do something 'within our view or presense'.

An old movie you might be interested iin is "We're Fighting Back", which sort of tells the origins of the Guardian Angels.

    Maybe the .357 holds 8 .357 rounds or 6 .38's? :poke:

You never know. You might need that extra .023 stopping power sometimes instead of more shells!

I wonder if a ratio of stopping power could be accurately determined based on size of the bullet compared to a given person's BMI? I'm going to look in the back of Soldier Of Fortune magazine and see if there's any ads for that.

Would make a person wonder why they made a .50 PISTOL! "Ya, I carry this around with me in case I get attacked by a 15 foot tall werewolf or a tarrasque."

Or perhaps like the bad guy in Johnny Dangerously. "I had it specially made. It's an .88 magnum. It shoots through schools."

When I lived on the mining claim, a bear hunter guide told me to get a .357 because anything less would not stop a bear. He had a .45 but
    said my wrists couldn't handle a .45. So I got a .357.

It's not the numerical 'name' of the size of the round that matters. It's things like the mass of the slug, amount of powder in the shell behind the slug and the length of the barrel that determine the muzzle energy. Stand a .357 round on it's base next to a .38 round. They are the same width, but the .357 round stands taller.

I'm don't think the term 'stopping power' has any real meaning.

If that .50 fires the same round as a 'Ma Duece', the target will be unharmed and the pistol wielder will need hospitalization.

Get a 9mm if it makes you feel better to own a gun.

I was talking to a friend at a birthday party on Wednesday, and was told that a kid who lives down the street, 15 years old and a good kid, has started taking a knife with him down to the skate park "for protection - just in case". I had a word to him explaining that bringing a weapon to trouble just escalates it, and if he was fighting someone like me he'd probley get stabed with his own knife as I'm faster, stronger and more experienced and that if he wants to defend himself he should just learn a martial art like krav maga or jujutsu and really if trouble stars he should just run like hell.

I don't. I got a 20 gauge for partridge and a semi-automatic .22 long rifle but they haven't seen the light of day in many a year. I think I have a bb gun somewhere left over from my youth. I punished many a squirrel back in the day.

I find that strangely comforting for some reason.

I don't like guns, even for hunting. I feel that they are cowardly. I'd rather work in-close.

Guns may have their uses but the uses are very specific and don't come up very often whereas a manual tool in the hand, such as a bricklayer's tool, hand scythe, hatchet, hand sledge, metal punch, etc. are easier to operate, quicker and makes imaginations go wild at the thought of damage they could inflict. They have a larger fear factor.

There goes the comfort factor. :p

Never touched a gun, but I'm handy with a bow.

When I lived in Canada I knew a few older hunters who gave up rifles and switched to hunting with bows.
They thought it was more humane and more of a challenge.
I've fired a .22 and pellet guns but never at anything that was alive.

I've seen pictures of a .50 cal handgun and the rounds are not the same as those fired by a Ma Deuce or the infamous .50 cal sniper rifle. They are pistol cartridges, very similar to a .45 ACP, but scaled up a bit. I've also seen a modified weapon from the M-16 family that fires a sawed-off .50 cal round. At close range it punches right through concrete walls where the .223 round just goes splat.
