Does anyone know the differences--technical or otherwise--between the three shadow options (simple, geometry, or maps) in the video options menu? I probably know what both the geometry (polygons applied as a shadow) and map (procedural map applied as a shadow) types are, but does anyone know the purpose of having three choices? I'm just curious as I have been using "simple" and just now noticed the other two.
Well, the simplest one gives you a vague dark spot around the feet, whereas the best one puts a clearly humanoid shadow on the ground and looks very cool indeed. But I am about 90% sure they don't reflect the actual lighting in the game (ie the shadow doesn't appear on the opposite side of a light), so its just a pretty effect and has no real use.
