Got a question for anyone out there. I haven't really played CRPG's since finishing the old Gold Box series in the early 90's and the Eye of the Beholder Series of the mid '90's (I wish someone would bring that back) Anyways.. I'm working my way thru TOEE an a couple of quests need to be done thru Diplomacy and I see Gamebanshee say's "use" diplomacy.. Now using diplomacy is that an automatic thing because I've got a Paladin who has a Diplomacy of 3 and is a level 2. If it's automatic, I'm not getting too far with some of these quests Thanks... -Jason
The game automatically rolls for you during conversation. If successful, you get a conversation option with a little symbol next to it (I think Diplomacy is a scroll). If you Skill level and Charisma modifier aren't high enough, you don't get the option. (You generally want your party face man to have a high Charisma and max ranks in all the social skills: Bluff, Diplomacy, Gather Information, Intimidate and Sense Motive.)
A human rogue with high charisma and intelligence is very good for using as your party leader (paladins tend to have too few skill points to get good scores in the social skills). That said, it can be a little 'gamey' too specifically tailor a character just as a diplomat but you pays your money and you takes your bets...
I usually have a rogue go to level 3, putting max ranks in all the dialog skills, and getting +2d6 sneak attack in the process, then make him a fighter the rest of the way. With a good charisma, that will be enough ranks to go through pretty much all the quests in the game. It's a good multiclass route. But basically, yeah, if you're not able to complete a quest, level up and add ranks in that skill (or craft a cha-boosting cloak?). That's about all you can do.
i use my thief too to do the talking. or you can use the console to bring in the sorceror helm #6036 and that will take care of any diplomatic problems if you put it on your wiz or sor
