What sort of treasure is to be found in TOEE? Are their items that boost stats (I know you can craft them, I want to know if any are tehre for free).? Is the Elven Chain by the giants the only mithral (can it be upgraded to +3?)? A magic spiked chain? Thanks, Eph
I've seen masterwork spiked chains in Livonya's mod. I don't recall seeing any 'mithril' armour, and I was under the impression that only masterwork armour could be 'enhanced'. There are different types of elven chain though and a few shirts of that about. There are some items that will boost stats (eg +2 dex gloves) but if you want something specifically, you're much better off crafting it.
There is a very long list of treasure found in the game or that can be crafted. Stats can be increased by +6 with magical help, plus you get a 1 point increase of your choice at level 4 and 8. So, if you start with an 18 strength, by level 8 it could be 26 with a belt of giant strength+6. There are magical items to all stats categories. The list of weapons and armour is also very extensive. The list and possiblities are way too long to put in 1 post or e-mail.
I know all about the crafting options--what I'm concerned about it what can be found. I wouldn't want to craft an item, then find it in a barrel.
The items that you craft will be a lot better than those you find. Even Fragarach, Scather will not compare with the uber weapons you can create (holy, axiomatic, fire, shock, ice, keen, etc), well apart from the fact that you cannot miss with those weapons. My monk dual wielding uber python rods outdo my fighter/barb/rog with the two weapons in term of damages. As for exotic items, same thing goes that you will not find a lot of +6stats increase items, so crafting them is the way to go. And there is a lot more fun with exploring and finding unique items that will surprise you, rather than about knowing about it beforehand, at least the first time you finish the game anyway. At least that is for me but I guess you can be different.
Crafted items are always better than the ones you find in "barrels". Think about it, if you spent all you money and xp on item creation would you leave the item in a barrel for someone else to steal or would you look after it like it was your first born? A way around it is leaning to mod so you can "craft" your own items outside of the game and use the console to import them.
Aghhh!! I appreciate that you are trying to help by giving me good advice, but you're misunderstanding what I already know and what I'm trying to learn! I know that crafting is better--that's why I plan on crafting. But I also plan on upgrading when I can. 1. Are there any Magic Spiked chains already in the game? 2. My understanding is that it is impossible to upgrade wondrous items. Is that the case? 3. To sell items for more, do you only need 1 PC with appraise in the party? 4. The armor that you find near the Hill Giant in Emridy Medows--can it be upgraded (beyond Spell resistance?)? Does SR do any good?
The highest level item you will find or get as treasure is +3, in anything, pretty much. All the higher level items will require a serious encounter/quest to be earned. You wont find a +3 longsword in a barrel, maybe a +1spear or javelin and that's about it. Use what you get until you have the money and xp to craft what you want. It's about the only way.
1. I've only ever seen Masterwork. And that was only using Liv's mod. 2. I believe so but am happy to be disproved. 3. Yes. As long as that is the person who opens the dialogue. 4. Not that I know of but again I am happy to be disproved. Never tried crafting spell resistance so I'll pass on that one. There have been a lot of changes and additions to items and I've not been able to play-test Allyx's hard work as much as I'd like. As others have said, what you make is far better than what you get as loot. So unless you have specific spoiler questions, we can only give you these horribly vague answers Play the game through once or twice just to see what's there - the list of items available is massive. I would recommend a Chaotic Good fighter type for your first run through though.
I've already played 3 or 4 parties to about 7th level, and gone through the earth temple level of the Temple. What I want to do now is start a smal (2-3 person party) the goal is to develop one super-PC (1/2 Brd/Ftr, spiked chain), decked out with a complete set of the best iems (belt +6, +3 flaming, holy, etc. weapon, cloak +3, etc)
[Editted in toto to avoid spoilage.] Yes, there is a magic spiked chain in there, u'll know it when u find it cause it has a lovely name (if what I am tihnking of is a magic spiked chain, which I am pretty sure it is)
It is impossible to ugrade wondrous item, no if or but. It is possible to upgrade magic weapons and armor (though for some you cannot, even when they are +1 variety, some bugs I guess). It is possible to upgrade elven chain, but I believe this is a bug. You can simply upgrade it but not add anything, ie just go in and click done (no gold or exp wasted). But check the chain again, it will be +8. Spell resistance is buggy at the moment so dont use it at all for any armor. Appraise is only needed on one char, and no you do not need that char to start the conversation. I usually let my wizard have the skill (high int) but my rogue the diplomat who starts the conversation. Are you a power gamer? If so dont go for spiked chain but go for glaive instead. It is better in this game and you can also get it in Liv's mod.
