Hello all. Thanks for letting become a member. So i loved playing this game, but since i have bought the game and moved a few times. i have lost my discs. How do i go about downloading the game and then putting the mods in for the full experience!..I finished the game several times when i had it. I always felt that there was something missing in the game. Places that were undeveloped or story lines that were not fully developed.
I purchased the COG version because I cannot find my disks. The Co8 mod pack gives me a directory error when I try to install it. It says "could not detect a valid, compatible version."
I am using the GoG version. No trouble with the install. During the GoG install, pick your desired folder. Then during the Co8 install, pick that same folder.
The Co8 install doesn't give me an option to choose a folder. What is the "front end" and how do I use it?
You should ensure your installation is not located in a windows (Program Files) folder - you can just cut and paste the whole folder to another file location (Games/Atari/ToEE). The frontend is the program in your ToEE folder named TFE-X.exe, run this program when you want to activate a mod pack, add-on, and/or portrait pack. If you aren't planning to use Temple+, you will also use this to run ToEE. If however you do install Temple+ it has it's own launcher to run the game, but TFE-X should still be used to switch between mod packs, load add-ons, and portrait packs.
There are really comprehensive install intructions for the Co8 mod pack (including TFE-X), please read them. https://co8.org/community/threads/circle-of-eight-modpack-installation-instructions.6695/
No, I don't think so. I use the GoG version. The GoG version gets installed into the C:\GOG Games\ToEE folder (I abbreviated that) and you can click on the Options button in the installer and change the path. But there should be no reason to change the path. When you install the Co8 mods you point it to that folder. Open the Front End and activate the module of your choice. When you install T+ let it install into its default folder. Open the T+ Configuration app and point it to that GoG ToEE folder you used during that install and you are done.
My file organizational scheme has meant that I've never used the default install path. I put the files in, for example, C:\a\ToEE and things have worked well for me! Thus, the location of the files on your HD likely doesn't matter so long as the relevant apps can access them.
Note that installers often point to Program Files by default (I think GoG does that as well now). It's better not to install there.
Hi Jerry, Something a bit more useful: if you install the Co8 mod correctly you should end up with four Circle of Eight Modpack 8.1.0 New Content files (a tfm, tfs, txt and jpg) in your root folder alongside the Data, Miles and Modules folders and ToEE1, 2, 3 and 4.dat and some dlls and other things. If they have gone somewhere else, they weren't installed properly.
