Hi I year ago, I installed TOEE with the Front End 5.0 and it worked well. Last week, I tried to play and it refused to start. I have only made official updates since ; my OS is VISTA. I followed these steps : 1 - unistall TOEE + front end and everything that contained "evil" 2 - intsalled TOEE from CD (French Version) 3 - Try to install patch 1 (does not want) 4 - Install patch 2 5 - Launch TFE-X as an administrator I always get the same pop-up from VISTA : "TFE-X stopped working, etc etc" I tried with the original TOEE exe, and with the nocd exe. I tried as an administrator, and not I tried with 2 files architectures : With TFE-X.exe on the root and with TFE-X.exe in a sub folder. I am getting short of ideas. Please, help ?
Well, the patches may not work b/c if they are a French version they may not work right. Such as, if they change dialogue, the offical patches may be in English and not French. However, I would recommend running your Toee.exe and TFE files as administrators and as Windows XP SP3 compatible. The setting for this should be in the file properties in the same tab as where you run it as administrator. This worked for me in Vista and Win7. Good luck.
Concerning the French version : it worked perfectly one year ago, so I do not think that it is the issue. I can run TFE-X.exe as an admin, and as Windows SP2 compatible, but not SP3. (I don't have the option) The TFE still does not start.
Try disabling your anti-virus and see if that helps. Also, did you install the game to a non-system drive by any chance? By most accounts, the ToEE installation needs to live on your system drive. (Usually C: )
It still does not work when Antivir is disabled. TOEE installation is on the system drive. Talking about the path, I still wonder whether TFE-X must be placed on the root c:\...\TOEE or on a sub folder. For instance, with the "Circle_of_Eight_Modpack_5.8.1_NC_BETA", should the path be : c:\...\TOEE\Circle_of_Eight_Modpack_5.8.1_NC_BETA\TFE-X.exe or c:\...\TOEE\TFE-X.exe ?
It should be in your ToEE root directory. That's where it will be already if you extracted the modpack properly.
I checked the directory. It is ok now : C:\...\Temple of Elemental Evil\TFE-X.exe I still does not deploy. Therefore, the TFE-X-repair says : "TOEE Front End is not installed" I am trying the last version (5.8.1_NC_BETA). Do you think I should try an older one ? I don't remember the version that was used to work last year.
Yes I did. However, ToEE works perfectly (even without running as SP2) ; it is only the Front End that I can't start.
Look for a no-cd crack for ToEE patch 2 that is 33kb in size uncompressed, 16 kb in size compressed, and replace your ToEE.exe in your root directory with it. We can't link you to one because they are technically 'warez.' edit - I see you already tried that. Did you use the right sized one?
First : Thanks to all for your help. I would have given up already without you. Indeed, I use the 33kb no-cd crack (patch 2), english version, which works fine. I can play TOEE classic version with it, but I really would like to enjoy all the Font-End features. I can't explain why the Front-End even starts to deploy. It's so frustrating ! oke: Every .exe is "as admin" Antivir is desactivated The path is C:\...\Temple of Elemental Evil\TFE-X.exe An idea : Atari patch 1 didn't wanted to apply, quoting something like : "Can't find .ANY files" Atari patch 2 installed perfectly, but prompt logically that there were no old files to replace. Do you think that would be an issue ? Another (weird) idea : Before washing out the old version of TOEE and front end, I kept the folder "save" on my desktop (to be able to play with my first quest characters). I figure this will never work because I would change version. However, I have NOT replaced the files in C:\Temple of Elemental Evil\modules\ToEE\Save yet. I don't think these files on my desktop should be any problem, but I guess I have no reason to keep them, knowing that these characters shall never be able to play a new version. Am I right ? :twitch: The logs : (some of it is in French, sorry !)
