I've gotten to the point where I have the Temple marked on the map. I haven't gone there yet. What should I absolutely have with me so that I don't get squashed right away?

    Gnome Bard LV5, Elven Wizard LV5,Halfling Rogue/Fighter LV3, Dwarven Fighter LV5, Human Druid LV5...NPC's Melany LV3 Cleric, Elmo LV4 fighter/LV1 Ranger, Otis LV10 Fighter.

Do I need to change this around? Oh, and what the heck is a Bastard Sword, anyway? I have a Masterwork Bastard Sword in my Inventory, but don't have it equipped to anyone yet.

    Thanks!!

A bastard sword is one where the blade is of nominal length, but the hilt is longer, to allow one or two handed use. If you see the original CONAN movie, his sword is a perfect example of a bastard sword. It must be no longer than 4.5 to 5 feet long. A greasword is usually 6 feet long and cannot be weilded by any less than two hands.

The bastard sword is an excellent weapon, but you need an Exotic weapon proficiency skill to wield it one handed, but it is worth it. If you have the patches, you can then use a Katana one handed. Personally, I equip Rogues with the Bastard sword as they can then use the Katana with minimal loss (the Katana is light) but inflicts mighty damage.

    In regards to your characters......

One can never be prepared enough. I would make Elmo and Otis the front fighters, as they are expendable. More levels are always better, but how does one learn without struggle. The tower with the brigands, for you, will be the best fight in the game. Make sure you have all the buffs you can stand as you will need them, but anything else will spoil the fun. Enjoy.

PS. Later on, you could get your hands on Fragarach, depending on how you play. It is a bastard sword, so being proficient would be wise. I always am.......
