I have just started a game using the toffee and Cof8 4.0 but without desperate housewives for the moment.

Its a while since I last played (using Cof8 3.04) but it seems to me that most ghouls I have fought have loads more hit points (approx double) than they should by the official rules, and I don't remember this from last time. Also I suspect that Lubash (ogre in the Moathouse) was tougher this time around as well (my first level party lost 1 PC plus 2 charmed/companion animals before we could take him down). Combining this with the reduced XP awards was meaning I often needed to rest up after only 1 encounter.

Now, I am not complaining or anything, but could someone clarify if this is down to changes in, say, Livonya's mod. Or was it there before without my noticing it?

Also, I have read that Kalshane is trying to make monsters more "official" but cannot quite realise if he is referring to the same things I am, or something else. So, when he releases his stuff, will I perhaps see more official hit point totals (or not)?

Just to make clear that I am not in any way demanding or expecting anything of all the volunteer modders who have made this greatly promising game actually playable! They deserve an ex gratia payment from Atari for completing their product. I am just trying to grasp where mods might be taking my game, so I understand what's going on. (I didn't feel the read me notes were entirely clear on this- though again we are lucky to have any at all.)

When I was going through making my fixes, I noticed a lot of undead had bonus hitpoints. I removed them.

Livonya didn't make any changes to Lubash other than changing his AI so he would use his pre-existing Barbarian Rage.

Thanks for that- some of it must be my imagination, then. Although, come to think of it, rage would of course make him a tougher nut to crack.

Am I correct in thinking that your fixes are NOT (currently) included in the Cof8 4.0?

    Kalshane,

Was wondering if you had finished your mod reference updating the hit die/hit points of all the creatures. If so, how can one download? If not, do you have an ETC?

Appreciate your work on this. Keep it coming!

The protos.tab/invensource.mes changes ARE complete, but the best way to Implement th invensouce changes is currently bieng decided - (script Vs mob - the script option requires killing and respawning every NON-protos.tabcomplinat .mob (monster), killing it and respawning another of the same type (to get the new protos.tab fixes working)

    Allyx,

That's a lot of technical jargon for a lay person like myself....Whichever way is implemented, will it be transparent to gamers?

That depends on what you mean by "transparent".

If you have played the game through a few times before, you will probably notice some of the changes. Enemies may behave differently and/or have different equipment, or may be tougher or easier to defeat. But it will be ultimately more internally consistent and rules compliant.

@Blue: By transparent, I think MB meant "does not induce or generate lag in the game".

Thanks for the translation bc that's what I was really asking...I just worded my question incorrectly.

@MB- The game shouldn't play any differently system-wise, AFAIK. The new stuff will just be there.

And what Allyx and CB said about the updates are done, they're just working out how to implement them.
