Can anyone explain to me exactly how spring attack is used in this game? I don't understand the relevance of the feat except being on the path to Whirlwind. I have tried moving, attacking and moving again but usually when I try to move at the final part, it tells me I can't. Any advice would be appreciated...
i think spring attack is like this: 1. move (either normal or 5-foot step) 2. attack 3. move (if you used normal movement, only 5-foot step is allowed and vice versa) still have to check it out since i restarted my games coz i just installed livonya's mod...
I believe you have to choose "Spring Attack" from the radial menu. It's been awhile since I've had the feat, so I can't remember exactly.
Except that for a monk, for me it is not that useful. Even because a fighter has to make as many attacks that he can. Anyway... I never used it too and I can't remember anything as good as it.
how you use spring attack.... Well, it would be in the radial menu, but it never showed up for me because of the armour my fighter was wearing. With spring attack yes you move, attack and then move back to where you started or keep going through. The requirements of spring attack are or were under ad& 3rd ed: that you could not use heavy armour. Heavy armour includes: Splint; Banded; Half-plate; and Full plate Under 3.5 ed rules which I've only just checked, it is the same you can not wear heavy armour. Also, your total distance moved may not be greater than your speed. Also, you must move at least 5 foot before and after your attack. I hope this helps, but I'm guessing your problem of why you can't spring attack is simply you are wearing one of the heavy armours I have listed, and assuming Troika haven't fudged another rule.
hm... Alright well the fighter who has spring attack is wearing the purple elven chainmail. That wouldn't qualify as heavy armor because when he has no encumbrance he has a 30' movement. So maybe I need to take another look at the radial menu...however anytime I have looked at the combat part of the radial I have never seen an option for him that had spring attack among the move, combat or options. Nope...I just took a look and spring attack is not an option on his radial menu.
All that you get with SpringAttack is the ability to Move, Single Attack, and Move again. I do it all the time with my fighters before I get Whirlwind attack. Without spring attack you can only move once per round.
If you select 'single attack' from the radial menu (as opposed to clicking on enemy straight away) are you then able to spring attack? ie choose single attack, then choose enemy to attack, after attack is resolved, can you then move away?
If you've (non-5-foot-step) moved before attacking, all you can do is single attack, so you don't have to select it. Clicking on the enemy will do the trick. If you haven't moved and have more than one attack because of a 6 or better base attack bonus, then clicking on the enemy will yield a full attack (the default), and you will only be able to 5-foot-step after that, as per the rules. You'll have to click single attack to have any (non-5-f.s.) move after that, no matter what. Moreover, spring does nothing for you here, as you'd be able to move after a single attack anyway. The way to use spring attack with, for example, a 30 foot movement, is this: move between 5-25 feet (6-24 to be safe; 10-20 to be realistic, because we can't eyeball that well), click the enemy to attack (be careful this doesn't cause you to move further), then move again the remainder of your movement, or at least 5 feet. Example: enemy is 15 feet away, so you move the 15 feet, attack once by clicking on him, then move out of his range, say 10 feet. That's a spring attack. Normally, you would, after moving the 15 feet and attacking, move on to the next character, without the option of moving further. You don't need to choose anything from the menu. I've done it, and it works. Reasons you might not get the chance to move afterward: 1. you didn't move a full 5 feet before attacking (using waypoints may also screw this up, hmmm). 2. you don't have 5 feet of movement left after the attack. If none of this is addressing your problem, perhaps it's because of some quirky thing like your character tumbled, and that interfered with something. Dunno. Could be the waypoint thing too.....
