Quick question. Having just started a new testing run-through of KotB with a hobbit I can't help but wonder if there is any small sized gear for sale, and am adding a gnomish vendor of said microtools just in case. So, can I ask, what small size stuff is there in the game in general and is there any glaring ommisions (lack of small-sized greatswords, or whatever)? Also, is there any desire among players for small-sized armour when it doesn't get recognised by the engine?

Have you noticed that small characters are discriminated against when it comes to using rapiers? Medium characters use medium-sized rapiers so why do small characters have to use tiny (rather than small) rapiers?

Well, yeah, this is the sort of thing I am wanting to fix. The 'tiny rapier' does 1d3 damage but claims to be 1d6 in the hover text. So other than tiny rapier and halfling siangham are there other weapons for small characters out there? And are there glaring ommisions, or do small characters automatically use small weapons like they are medium sized (or something)?

Introducing tiny weapons was a part of upgrading to 3.5, but as Pygmy says, where does that leave small weapons? A normal rapier is medium-sized, albeit a shortsword is small, but then that's part of the rapier's appeal...

I believe the only small armour in the game is the Masterwork Studded Leather, there *should* be small armour for every type of armour as the small suits would weigh half as much, but ToEE doesn't prevent medium sized PC's from using it.

Aaah, but it's easy enough to add a script that if a medium-sized PC tries to jam their fat belly into it they rip the sticthes and destroy the item. Fun, too.

I'm not sure what to make of any of this - I tested, and a halfling with a (small-sized) dagger in his off hand still treats it as a light weapon (no penalty), he doesn't need it to be tiny sized, so there is probably no need for any of this... but I have already done the dlg for the seller, so I will plow on for the few sad neurotic types who wish their small characters were dealing less damage :)

At the risk of being neurotic a normal sized dagger is a tiny weapon already so it is one size class smaller than a halfling and thus a light weapon in his/her hands.

Ahhh, glad you picked me up on that, I assumed it was small. It's a tiny weapon in protos.tab too. I'll do some more testing but basically at this point my intent is to add tiny versions of everything currently small (and some magic versions too - nothing more than +2 for KotB).
Well, the engine seems to make some effort to allow all this, so I am only going to add tiny weapons - there is no need for a 'small size greatsword' since a small character can just use a longsword or whatever and in their hands it becomes a 2-handed 'greatsword' anyway. Or so I understand it.

I mean, yeah it does technically.... but the feats will all be wrong, at least by 3.5 RAW.

Weapon focus, weapon specialization etc... you'd have to use the feats for the weapons you can use, rather than the smaller version of the weapon you wanted. Also, using the 3.5 version of the weapon table, small characters can use 2 handed reach weapons, in 3.0, those weapons were all too large to be wielded.

Ahhh ok, I tihnk I get what you are saying. Well, if we follow that logic, then we have to make small size versions of every weapon. To which I can only say, anyone who wants to can go for it, but I'm not going to spend my time doing that (considering I don't think anyone has even asked for it). I just want to fill in a gap that I can see for people playing small characters. But the reach weapons is a goood point, what does a reach weapon for a small character look like? Do they get anything with a 10' reach?

Yeah, the 3.5 version of the weapon table is basically the same as Pathfinder from what I can see, they can use medium sized Longspears, Ransuers, Glaives and the like, they still get 10' reach, but the weapons do less damage and weigh a little less than the large sized versions that medium sized characters use.

I guess the thickness of the haft's would be thinner than the standard version, perhaps the weapon heads are a little smaller, or has holes drilled into them to save weight.

All right, well I'll test how they go with the current weapons and if they can't use them properly I'll add smaller versions.

EDIT: Glaive, ranseur and guisarme all come back as, "too large to weild", so I'll make some 'medium sized' large weapons, as it were.
