Skill Mastery

    This Rogue special seems bugged or improperly coded. Certain skill don't seem to involve checks, like Appraise and Diplomacy, but are still on the list of skills pickable. Survival isn't on the list (since apparently there are no Survival checks). What bugs me is the lack of UMD (Use Magic Device) as a pick, though there is controversy over the legality of Skill Mastery: UMD.

    Since Skill Mastery: UMD is why I even considered this special, what say you to allowing this?

    The SRD is clear: You cannot take 10 with this skill. The carry-on at OotS is just being persnickety - the issue at hand is not, "you have to roll because you are under duress and cannot take 10 (which can only be done when you are not under duress)". Magic items get operated under duress all the time, but the issue for UMD is do you operate it wrongly and blow yourself up? Duress doesn't come into that equation and thus mastery cannot take it out again.

    Anyway, I may not be explaining it properly but unfortunately the rules are quite clear.
