simple question - killing trolls?

Sorry for this, but I can't figure out how to finish off trolls.

I don't have enough fire/acid spells to take them all the way down on lethal damage but I can knock them out with "non-lethal." once they are down, i'll hit w/ Melf's or similar but it doesn't kill them off like i expected. please adivse.

When they're down, stand really close to them then "coup de grace" them. (in the radial menu/offence/CdG)

 

A reach weapon is quite useful for this purpose as it reduces the amount of walking round you need to do to get into the right poistion. Easiest thing to do is right click on the downed troll and then select coup de grace from the radial menu.

 

Don't forget that cdg in combat will provoke an attack of opportunity.

 

I'm not sure why Troika went with Coup De Grace for perma-death. In all the other games I've played it was either fire or acid (or cold etc for specific troll variants).

 

Probably because they knew that a lvl5 party doesn't have enough fire or acid based weaponry, coupled to the fact that they're also implemented as a random encounter.

But they missed the sentence after that:

In PnP you kill Trolls by making a coup de grace with a torch if you don't have a flaming or acidic weapon at the ready.

 

In other words, BARBEQUE!!!
