I started playing again earlier today and made it to the moathouse. I went into the dungeon via the stairwell near the zombies, wiped out the undead and slimes, then went back upstairs. When I tried to go down again (via either of the stairways in the upper moathouse), CTD. I uninstalled, reinstalled, started from the beginning and played through, and exactly the same bug recurred. Anyone seen this? Advice?
Running 1.1, 1.2, Co8, and Liv's 1.51 patch, and I did read the instructions and follow them (including deleting the garbage files in the map directory).
When you crashed after the reinstall, were you using the same save? The problem may have been preserved in the save file somehow.
Didn't use the same save. I restarted the game from scratch after reinstall, then went through Hommlet, cleared out the talky quests there, moved on to the moathouse after Deklo grove, and ran into the same problem: Cleared the upper moathouse, but the lower level crashed after I entered it once, left, then tried to go back. I was able to get a game finally where this doesn't happen. My sneaking suspicion is that it has something to do with turning the zombies and not managing to kill all of them if they go hide in corners.
If you hadn't finshed the combat, I am surprised it let you leave... Are you using orion's new protos.tab?
Your suspicion is certainly supported by the following reasoning: I don't think anybody's reported this bug before, and if it involves leaving something alive in the moathouse, especially an undead that most people will destroy with greater turning or just not bother turning if they weren't going to kill it, you can see why this wouldn't have been encountered for some time. Did that make sense?
That does make sense. I turned the zombies but didn't manage to get a destroy result, then didn't want to bother hunting them all down because my party was pretty hammered and only one character had a slashing weapon anyway. I'm kinda surprised that it let combat end if there were still zombies out there, but they may have run off into the dark unexplored recesses of the map.
