Do the different ranger pets give or have any special abilities? Besides it just being funny, why would you ever summon the chicken? lol Also, do the familiars of spell casters actually do anything but sit in your backpack? Thanks in advance for any and all responses. Grimslade
you can order familiars to get out of the backpack. They can scout and I think the can deliver touch attacks, though I never tested it. I do not want to lose a familiar or 1 CON permanently.
Each familiar gives different bonuses. I always take the toad for +3 hps. Some give bonuses to spot or listen, things like that, but 3 hit points make a big difference early in the game, while +2 to spot for a wizards (cross class skill) means almost nothing unless you are going solo. Ranger companions lag so far behind druid's that they are mostly cannon fodder, I stop summoning them mostly after 5th level.
The weasel is also nice for the +2 reflex save. As for the chicken, I have no idea why it is even available other than for a joke and laugh. Now maybe if you had enough level and use growth on it, it MIGHT be something worthwhile, but I would not hold my breath on that.
LOL - I am definitely going to summon the chicken and use Animal growth on it, then send it into combat the next time I play - I'll grab a screen shot!
Hey, I just tried the enlarge animal with my familiar, and it works! IN fact after the fight, I talked to him to put him back in the backpack, and a few days later when I tried again, when he cam out he was still big! He must have the permanency bug, but I guess I'll live with it!
When it looks like you're in danger, When you're threatened by a stranger, When it looks like you will take a lickin... There is someone waiting who Will hurry up and rescue you Just caaaaawwww for Super Chicken!
Had a perfect encounter to test out my super chicken - hobgobs! W/ augmented summoning and animal growth he killed 3 of them! lol He never even took damage - which I found odd, becuase they were actually hitting him occaisionally. It took forever, but was funny to watch.
