so i have the newest version of co8 without new content, as i was looking to get a bugless kind of enchanted vanilla experience(as even the no new content version gives new quests and stuff) but one question does pop up in my mind. i limit my characters to lvl 10 in the vanilla style, however since co8 raised the cap to 20, has this cap raise changed any classes and their abilities in the no new content version that would make them not able to use their original abilities or skills if they cannot raise above lvl 10? im mostly talking about vanilla skills and spells, not the ones co8 might have added. like for example have any abilities changed so that they might require class level that is above 10 as prerequisite?
If you go above level 10, you will get new spell levels, new class abilities (like monk abilities, barbarians get more rage powers, etc). Some of the crafting feats require levels above 10 for certain features, but only because you need 6th or 7th level spells to add those features. You can complete the vanilla game at level 10, but some of the late game encounters are very hard for a level 10 party.
The vanilla game goes to 54999XP, just short of level 11. There are no level 6 and above spells and crafting is limited. There is no cross-connection between mods/etc. There use to be a program to increase the vanilla level-cap, but it might not be around anymore. Didn't help much anyway. Basically it's either the vanilla original or a mod.
thanks for the help so far one thing ive always wondered is that would it be possible to play this game in ironman mode if you take backup saves of your savegames regularily? since it seems that savegame corruption is the biggest reason why people are told to avoid ironman, but seems that backups could be solution to that. also i would appreciate if people would give me any noob friendly multiclassing combos as i want to get familiar with multiclassing more. seems rogue and fighter are popular choices atleast. EDIT: one more question came into my mind. in the rannos and gremag revenge scenario, is it possible for them to attack you in your home at nulb if, A) you tell about them to Burne before talking to them and B) if you kill either of them in hommlet and only one of them escapes?
On Multiclassing, you get the most for your money with a fighter type/rogue, but you can also get some nice dipping with clerics with some fighter levels for the feats/weapon spcialization. Another power gamer way is to take one level of monk, then at least two levels of paladin, and then go from there. You the extra ac from wisdom, extra saves from charisma, and all the other extras. You can still fight them in Nulb, even after reporting them to Burne. You may have to initiate the battle in Hommlett to get them to run off, but they will await you in Nulb. Also one or the other will make a mention if you kill his friend.
one more question regarding the revenge scenario, what lvl group is exactly suppose to be able to clear them? my lvl 5 group with lvl 6 Elmo and Otis(who's lvl 10 everyone should know of) just got completely destroyed by it. The fighters were fine against the thugs but assassin destroyed my wizard almost immediatly and confusion and slow made it impossible to do almost anything. and after support was gone, fighters going down was just matter of time. although i guess i should have pre-buffed knowing there's the chance they might come
Buffing helps, especially haste. I would also suggest you try to slow down the assassins ASAP. as they can cripple you big time. Caste Tasha's or Hold Person. I personally think you should be at least 7th level for the extra HP and spells, though it depends on how many are in your party.
