Hi everyone - I'm doing a fresh installation of ToEE with 5.0 and the 5.0.4 CMR pack. I have always (prior to 5.0.4) also installed the sober Elmo fix after all of this, but now when I do that, the game takes me back to the desktop (no error messages) right after the intro movies and the 'Initializing Sector Data' progress bar on the D&D title screen.

I have tested at each stage of the installation (after the main game, after the Atari patches - 1 & 2, after installing 5.0.0, after installing 5.0.4, and after installing the Portrait/Voice Pack) and it works at each phase until I drop in sober Elmo.

    So, two questions:

    1. Do I even need Sober Elmo or is it included in one of the packs I'm already installing? (I really don't like the drunken Elmo staggering around my party and combat.)
    2. If it is needed, am I doing these out of order in a way that's fragging my game?

Also want to add my thanks and appreciation to all of you modders out there. I've lurked on these boards for a year or so now, after buying ToEE about a year before that and finding it unplayable. Your bugfixes have made this game playable; your mods have made this game enjoyable, a game I rush home from work to start playing (which I haven't done since BG2 came out...)

The Sober Elmo fix is included in 5.0.4. I have installed that alone, and the option is there when I recruit Elmo.

Yes installing the sober Elmo fix on top of the 5.0.4 CMF will break the game.

The Initialising Sector Data part of the loading screen is when the game starts populating the maps with items, if there is a .mob file in a map for an item that is not in the protos.tab file (of which there may be many considering how much has been done since the Sober Elmo fix) the game will certainly crash at this point, likewise if there is a spelling mistake in the protos.tab for one or more of the properties of any of the items in the game, the game will similarly crash at this point.

And as Gaear and Zuluwarrior94 states, the fix is in the CMF anyway, as well as a bunch of other fixes.

Many thanks to all of you. Excluded it from the install and I'm up and running again.
