I am having a few problems with this drow quest (with a NE party). First, the drow in the Deklo grove auto-initiates conversation with your first-slot PC after killing the spiders. If this guy is knocked out/dead, then no conversation happens, nor can you start one. The drow just stands there. Second, I accepted his mission to carry a note to Lareth. Is something supposed to appear in the logbook? Nothing does. When I get to Lareth, there is no option to offer the note. When I talk to the guards I can say I have a delivery, and they teleport me over, but when I tell Lareth I have a delivery, the dialogue acts like I don't have anything to deliver: http://i102.photobucket.com/albums/m95/Aeroldoth/larethdeliveryfaliure.jpg How can I offer this note to Lareth? I have tried all sorts of variables and ways of getting to Lareth in case I am unintentionally doing/not doing something that affects it. Do I need to have superhigh social skills to deliver a message? Do I need to be a certain level/class/alignment/something? Do I need to do something for the traders or courier first? Some tips or advice would be much appreciated.
What Cujo said. The part about the note was never finished. If rufnredde comes back, I'm sure he will finish it. I think Lord Spike was helping him with the ideas. Maybe he could let someone now the plan for the note and it might get finished. I'll look into the initiating dialog bug.
Thank you both for your replies. If I had known the quest was broken, I might have just killed the drow. Although... he does give an awful lot of xp for such a low level encounter. Maybe I wouldn't have, at that. If you guys are continuing to update the CO8 mod (5.0.2), may I recommend removing this portion, so others aren't left wondering like me?
I suggested the text of the message, and who it was from, etc. to tie into future co8 work; if it should ever come to pass. Got no clue on the modding aspect of it being accepted. Should fulfill some evil quest thingie, I should think. Get you trusted by some traders, maybe?
I read in another thread that some people were looking for ways to keep Lareth in the group without having to use workarounds to stop him from leaving/betraying the party. This note could serve that purpose. "Lareth, Lolth appeared to me tonight and told me that the ToEE is rising. This must not come to pass! Drop your charade as a fire priest and do whatever is necessary to lay the temple low. Use every means at your disposal to accomplish this, even your own life. Tsuggtmoy must not be freed. The bearer of this missive will aid you in this. [this was meant to be the drow, who foisted it onto the PCs] Tell me when you have succeeded, or tell Lolth when you have failed."
well some one has done something - evil parties maybe can keep him in the party, on the condition that you kill anyone who recognises him.
Just as well that I'd assumed that the Lareth quest was broken, or I'd have missed out on the drow's XP. Shouldn't there be some sort of warning inserted at the end of an NPC's dialogue if the quest is currently unfinished?
Yeah, I thought I dropped the note somewhere or accidentally sold it to a merchant or something when I first went through that quest. Spent several hours backtracking and talking to every merchant (didn't have a save to reload from before the event) :aaaa:
Just recovered my PC, and had my try at a CE party. Didn't fight the drow, but accepted to carry his note. Intersting plot idea, this note. A pity it was not fully implemented... for those of you who might not know, the note actually reads something like this: Long and faithfully have you served my former mistress. I beseech you now consider a new loyalty. Things are now afoot in the realms above that foretell the end of the dominion of bright (light). A darker god awakens from his long slumber; the kingdoms of nessren will fall, and [YOUR?] kinsmen of old will beg for death rather than live on the darkened and blood-stained Oerth. A re-ordered world in which the strong... and loyal... may (might) survive. Will your loyalty [be? go?] to her, or to him? For, only through me can you come to him. Mercy and patience... neither of these are traits which he and his servants hold in high regard; if they have any shred of them at all. Choose swiftly! Eclavdra This translation is made courtesy of the drow fortress, via the translator of House Maerdyn: http://www.grey-company.org/Maerdyn/resources/translator/ It is interesting to observe that Eclavdra is supposed to be the mastermind of the giant invasions (GDQ series), and has indeed betrayed her faith in Lolth for the faith of the Elder Elemental Eye (IIRC). This note could be a device for Lareth to give up on the temple of elemental evil, and struggle asctively against it... IIRC, the EEE and Tharizdun are one and the same, and the priests of Tharizdun are the evil plotters behind the return of the ToEE...
Yes...very interesting, isn't it? Some writers have imagined it this way, but EGG himself has said that wasn't his intent. Call it "artistic license" on behalf of those who came along later. The note is indeed for a tie-in to QotS, if that should ever come to pass. I'd like to see the FToT done here as well as a side quest to rule out Tharizdun as the chief antagonist, and get some cool spells & items into the game.
