Orion79 Update

Attention all forum members -

As much as it pains me to bring this topic up yet again, it appears that we are not yet done dealing with Orion79 and his "Complete Fixes" mod.

Recently it was discovered that his mod was back up at Sorcerer's Place. This is in direct violation of the agreement we worked out with Orion, which stated that Circle of Eight would first host his mod after all of our conditions for supplying the Co8 4.0.0 foundation had been met. Cerulean the Blue has since PMed Taluntain to address this issue, and I observed today that Orion's mod is already down again at SP. Below please see Blue's PM to Taluntain in its entirety. It explains many of the technical aspects of this situation quite accurately.

The fact that Orion appears to have been less than cooperative with Cerulean during this period disappoints me and in my mind casts grave doubts on his character. Because of this, as well as the dubious nature of his mod's return to SP, I will no longer personally advocate any reconciliation with Orion and will support only a hardline stance of dictation of terms to be met to allow for his mod to see the light of day. I would slso suggest that these terms include no negotiation this time around.

To this end, I would further suggest that one of these terms be a clearly written readme composed by Co8 that must be included with his mod. This readme would explain the situation as it stands, rather than rely on Orion himself (and his questionable communication skills) to enlighten players. Furthermore, I have included below an annotated version of Orion's READ ME 1, which contains corrections, suggested deletions, etc. for the record. This readme seems to have actually been written by Orion in its entirety. I would suggest that any interested parties read the document thoroughly and append any of their own suggestions for changes. Please limit these suggestions to topics having to do directly with Co8. The comments appear in blue italicized text, and refer to the preceding red text in question supplied by Orion. I plan to submit annotated versions of Orion's READ ME 2 and READ ME 3 files as well in the near future.

Good point, Gaear! I wholeheartedly agree with your position and I'd like to say exactly the same - since we were fooled this time, we shouldn't give 0rion another chance to mess around with us. This may sound rude or undiplomatic, but in my opinion it was 0rion who turned out to be tricky and undiplomatic in the long run, after a (very long and detailed) attempt to negotiate from the Co8 side.

Well, I am going to be a boring and wussy voice of reason.

I think 0rion posted his mod because the situation had stalled. Now, thats his fault - we did lots of hard work (and by 'we' I don't mean me, I mean folks like C-Blue and Krunch) and he did bugger all - but I don't think it was anything more sinister than that. The process of dealing with it had apparently stalled irrevocably so he got bored and posted his mod on SP. He DOES have a history of cutting corners and just posting stuff rather than doing the hard yards.

Either we poke him and make him do his damn job, or we finish his damn job for him (documentation-wise) and let him release. Obviously its not our job to do his work for him, but it IS the easiest way to put all this crap behind us.

 

I would expect that CTD if u installed it properly

Do we still have Krunch's '0rion-ready' Co8 release? If so, lets just append the documentation that C-Blue worked so hard to put together, add a disclaimer that 0rion is a clown, and release.

Note I am in "celebrating resurrection day with much wine-no-longer-water" mode and my posts must be treated accordingly. :drunk:

 

Ok, I have had a good read of the readme - thanks, Gaear, for editting the relevant bits - and I echo Krunch's comment that it will simply not work with 4.0.0. I think we should amend the readme to fit the 3.0.4+ Co8 release needed (whether Liv 1.5.1 + my mod 1.2.0 or 1.2.0 + Allyx's stuff or whatever) and send this back to him, then (assuming that release is still around in some form, presumably the pack Krunch put together) let him release and forget about him.

Not the most just outcome perhaps, but the easiest.

Thanks to C-Blue, Gaear, Krunch etc for their effort. I am sick of him.

Thanks for the input, everyone. Very humorous stuff there, rufnredde. No doubt you're experiencing the onset of Orion Syndrome, which can be very disorienting. Most of the rest of us come prepared with Dramamine for these little trips into Orion-country.

I received this PM from C-Blue in response to an inquiry from me. Apparently he is working at a feverish pitch in hopes of accomodating Taluntain while he is still cooperative . . .

If it still matters, I don't care which Co8 release is underneath his mess of a mod, I just thought I read somewhere that we had decided it would be 4.0.0. I'll change that if we supply him with corrected readmes. Man, as Ted alluded to, I still can't believe we do all this guy's work for him, and this while he tries to shaft us.

And for the record, I'm with Spike. I've dealt with Orion's kind at length before, and I'm here to tell you that he is a con-man, although a rather shabby one. Too delusional to be really effective, but hey, he took us for a ride, so give him his due I guess. Con-men always have some caveat to offer before anything can be finalized: "I thought I had my checkbook with me, but I must have left it at my sister's cousin's place, where little Ralphie is about to go in for his first chemo session. If you give me the title and let me drive the car over to the bank, I can get your money in cash AND be able to stop for candy for little Ralphie and catch him before he gets to the hospital! Can I borrow $4.71 for gas money too?" :dizzy:

Alright, attached are all three readmes from Orion's mod, now with Co8 corrections. If anyone has any objections to their content, speak up now, as this whole package is likely to ship tonight. I think you'll find the edits satisfactory.

C-Blue, I reverted all references to Co8's mod in READ ME 1 back to 3.0.4. If this is in some way still innacurate, feel free to edit the text accordingly.

 

Read Me 3 still looks a little empty.
