omg! How do I loot?!

    So, after a week of messing with the game, patches and add-ons I finally have the game working. My next nemesis is the fact that I haven't figured out how to loot anything.

    Please help.

    Make sure you've installed patches 1 and 2. They fix the looting bug. Also, make sure your running the latest version of the FR and Co8 mod, (FE-X and Co8 mod 5.5).

    I did all the patches but I had to use my original .exe file because I purchased the game online and downloaded it. When ever I run the patches and try to start the game it asks for a CD. I never had a CD.

    Also, how come when one of my own characters cast's identify it costs me 100 gold? What's the sense of having the spell memorized if it's going to cost me gold anyways?

    Thats straight from the rules - you need a pearl worth 100gp to make it work. The value lies in identifying stuff straight away while dungeon-crawling. Be aware that Read Magic will identify potions and scrolls for free.

    Plus, you have the looting bug. Please do a search for the looting bug.

    The stores should probably charge a markup ...120gp? But maybe those crafty merchants are getting pearls at wholesale.

    I have both patches installed along with the front end and mods and I cannot loot either unless I'm in combat. I just installed a nocd patch too.

    How does it work with the pearl? I thought the spell just took 100gp from your "savings."

    No, not an actual pearl to be exact. The original PnP spell description required the PC to have a pearl worth 100gp. In ToEE, it just deducts 100gp each time you identify an item.

    Am I going to have to reinstall the game to get the looting bug to go away?

    If so, is there any way I can save my save games or generated characters or would they still be screwed up and not be able to loot?

    I have no idea how to get rid of the looting bug.

    If you want to back up your characters and saves, copy TOEEdirectory\modules\ToEE\Save and TOEEdirectory\modules\ToEE\players to a safe location =)

    It's not guaranteed that the savegames will work, but at least you can sill have the characters you had from the start.

    I have both patches and the newest front end install. I have the 5.0.0 final installed, but I'm running the temple of elemental evil game itself instead of the Co8-5.0.0. Am I suppose to be running the Co8-5.0.0.? I'm still pretty new to this game.

    I see the 5.5 beta. Is it stable and should I be using that instead of 5.0.0. stable?

    AFAIK, the forum offers no support for the older versions of the modpack. 5.0.0 is pretty old. 5.5.0 has the 5.0.0 through 5.0.6 fixes plus new content plus new front-end so I suggest you go for it.

    If you want to play vanilla, you still need to start the game through the front-end but select "original game".

    When I first started playing ToEE, I had the same issue after installing patch 2. (This was before I found inner peace at the Co8) I know it's called the "looting bug" but you can work around it after combat is done by hitting your "c" (comabt) button and clicking on the corpses. That's how I got around it.

    If you're running the new FE and latest md pack (5.5), then I'm not sure how to make it go away. When I was running the old FE with 5.0.6, and even 5.0.0, I had no issues with the "looting bug"

    You can fix the looting bug with Meobius2778's Temple.dll (do a searchon the forum you should find it east enough) and exctract it into the modules/ToEE folder, IIRC it comes with a few other files in another folder which should be cut and pasted into the data folder (if the module is the active module) or the ToEE.data folder (if it isn't active), though this may have changed with the new frontend.
