Sorry to bother with a lousy thread like this. I am just wondering how to get this game to work - I have managed to download what look like the three patches: toee_any-patch3, toee_patch1_enu, and toee_usa_any-patch2 from what seemed to be an official infogrames ftp site.... First off, why arent all these patches wrapped up into one current patch? It sounds as if i have to apply 1, then 2, then 3. Why are the actual websites for the game and atari so bereft of usufull information? Browsing the boards on how to patch the game frightens me - as it sounds as if nothing works for most people. i dont want to spend 40 hours in the game only to find out that the end is as bugged as the beginning. However, I would like to keep the game legit and would like to use patches I am able to find at atari/official websites. Why does there seem to be little to no support for this - isn't atari a big classy company? Is atari still banking on name recognition from their video arcade games I used to play in the 80s? If they have been given the right to reconstruct/digitize what is one of the greatest classic old time ad&d modules ever written they should have done it right. They didnt even have to create a story, they had this handed to them on a silver platter... Maybe they should have just let bioware do it... Is there a simple faq somewhere from atari/troika that explains how to patch their barely to non-working game that I have just overlooked? The threads I've read with instructions to patching include non-brand label stuff I really dont want to install on my computer to get a game that should be working working. Sorry if I'm ranting a bit - I'd rant over at the atari website but they want me to put in an email address I will have to actually look at to get some dumb username/password just so I can post a simple question which none of their employees will ever read anyway. I have to hand it to you folks - i really boggle at what I've read on this board and how so many people have put time into fixing what the company who made the game should be doing. Maybe its the idea of seeing a real classic d&d module working that motivates you all - I'm surprised so many of you have spent your efforts on fixing other peoples messes.
Well, if he's not gonna use Co8 stuff, he probably should use Atari 3 to get around the looting bug. Don't expect any help from Atari, Houdini. ToEE is (un)officially abandonware. And Troika's out of business, so no help there. Just install the patches in sequence - 1, 2, 3. Rest assured, however, that patching this way will leave your game bugged in a major way. Co8 has carried the ball on this thing from the get-go and has handled the lion's share of the literally hundreds of fixes needed for this game. On the bright side though is the fact that hidden under all the bugs is a really top notched turn-based combat engine. Good luck.
Guess I'll have to use something other than the official patches. Patch1 alne or followed by patch 2 still leaves the looting bug, and if patch 3 is placed on top of these the game tries to load but crashes to desktop. I think patch 3 alone crashed to desktop as well the first time I tried it. Guess I now know why this game was only $10 at the local game store. Thanks for your replies
I completely recomend using the co8 patch 3.0.4, and Livonya's 1.5.1 modifications. the looting bug was fixed (before atari's patch 3) in moebius2778's temple.dll (included in Livonya's 1.5.1) as well as a whole bunch of other fixes, and new content galore! If you want some other new stuff, I have some files scattered around these boards with new items, weapons, and a few fixes too.
