Since poeple have been fiddling with the two-weapon combo, I was wondering, is there a way to make a weapon that has bonuses that only apply if it is used in the offhand?
In the protos there is nothing like that, nor in the core rules. OF course, if you want to create a clone of Drizzt, you may want to edit in the protos a defending scimitar +3, so that it is perfect to fight as secondary weapon. Instead there are some feats described in some compendium manuals there are some feats that are triggered only if a PC/NPC is fighting with 2 particular weapons (sword and dagger, axe and hammer, and so on....), but I really see it hard to see them on ToEE. Just to be sure, would you like to make some sample?
Well I want to add one of the great weapons to the game - the main gauche, which I believe is the name for that off-hand baby cutlass dagger thing which was used in renaissance times etc by two-weapon duellers (with a rapier, I suspect, or maybe something a bit lighter in the main hand). I want it to add bonuses if used correctly - as an off-hand weapon - but not if just used as a dagger in the main hand: i see no need to add another masterwork or magical dagger to the game. I realise there is probably no code or scripts to do this but if it is at all possible I would like to be able to add it.
Well, it sounds like a weapon for a home-made feat that follows the samples offered by the last 3.5 warrior handbook. Someting like: rapier & main-gauche style Prerequisites: 2-weapons fighting, weapon finesse, 2 weapon defense, dodge, base attack bonus +6. Effect & description: when fighting specifically with a rapier in the main hand a main-gauche in the other hand, the fighter gets a +1 dodge bonus equal to 1/5 of the character levels, rounded down, cumulative with the +1 bonus granted by the "dodge" feat. So a 6th level character wil get a +1 dodge bonus to AC, cumulative with dodge; a 10th level character will get +2 and a 20th level character will get +4, and so on. Wearing a buckler or holding a different kind of weapons will make the character to loose the dodge bonus granted from this style. What do you think? But actually, it is just a dream. I don't think that ToEE may do something like that. Instead, I wonder if there will come a day when we'll be able to restore the missing weapons and co-related proficiency feats, including improved disarming and the +2 bonus to disarm offered by many weapons.
In the protos.tab try entering in the equip flags column try "OIF_SECONDARY_WEAPON" or something, with a little luck you'll only be able to equip it as a second weapon, or only in your off hand.
Btw, thanks for these ideas guys, for some reason I miss some new posts in threads and only stumble on them later by accident. Only just saw these, u'd think this thread would be 'lit up' in my thread list as unvisited, but she weren't!
