Since I installed the co8 4.0, I keep getting CTD with the error 'ToEE.exe failed' or something, with the cause being 'ntdll.dll'. It happened to my Ironman game, which I was thoroughly enjoying, and now that game won't load as it says the saved file is corrupted. Please help!
probably a Windows drivers issue 1. check audio drivers in Windows...download/install latest new audio driver update 2. check video drivers in Windows...download/install latest new video driver update 3. BIOS settings [if it has these settings]...disable (1) load BIOS in Memory and (2) load Video Cache in Memory. Try a ToEE uninstall, delete remaining folders, reboot, reinstall, apply the atari patches 1 and 2 (apply both), and apply the Co8 4 mod and also give it a final reboot. * Note - I do not know what kind of computer you have, what version of OS, what OS patches and updates you have...maybe your hard drive is too fragmented, maybe it has a virus or spyware, or maybe it could be a dotNET issue if you go that route...you don't want too many places like that cause I'd tell you to [figuratively speaking] flatten everything on the hard drive and [literally speaking] reinstall Windows. Here's something as a last effort to try - maybe, if you still have the problems after steps 1 to 3 and the additional thought above and you also have an addon Audio card, uninstall and remove the addon video card (also means uninstall its software and drivers) to see if that fixes the problem. !!! If the game says your saved game(s) are toasted, it probably is just that and is not useable by any good, working install of ToEE.
Thanks for the advice. I haven't had any problems like that before with this game, until Ijust tried it recently after installing the co8 4.0. I don't get this error with any other game or software, so I'm very suspicious about the patch and the game itself being the culprit. I tried a fresh install deleting all folders as I couldn't even start a new game at one point. That cleared up my starting new game issues, but then after playing a number of hours, I got the CTD and corrupted save game. I have Win XP sp2 with all the latest updates, ATI 9800 pro video card and Audigy 2 sound card, 1 gig of ram. As I said, I never get any errors like this in any other situation and its only been happening since this addon.oop:
ntdll.dll error - ntdll.dll file for Windows XP Windows XP file version 5.1.2600.2180 !!! ONLY IF this file version is the same as what you have on your current installed Windows XP, try replacing ntdll.dll with your download copy of this file...click the following link below. -> NTDLL.DLL for Windows XP (ONLY) * File description: Win32 NTDLL core component, version 5.1.2600.2180 Note: ['cause you'd probably ask] Open a Windows Explorer folder and go to Windows\System32; scroll to ntdll.dll and right-click ntdll.dll; select Properties; click the VERSION tab; look for the FILE VERSION field and write down the entire number; compare the written version number to the version number posted here; if they are the same, try replacing the file. * If the versions are the same, I would be surprised if replacing ntdll.dll fixes the problem...re-read my previous instructions and try them...regardless of what experiences you have had with other games, programs and software [and whatnot], ToEE can be fickle. I'd even suggest not using Toffee to play ToEE as an alternative if you have tried using Toffee with the Co8 4 MOD. ** Take a close look at your addon audio card...ToEE might dislike the driver on Windows XP (just my own thought). !!! Uhm, BTW, you cannot replace ntdll.dll in Windows. You'll need to make a bootable CD disk that can read FAT32 and NTFS partitions and boot using that CD disk to replace the ntdll.dll file. * You can try this tool. -> Ultimate Boot CD Ver 3.3 (Basic) ** There are 3 versions to download of UBCD (basic) that are 121, 90, and 82 MegaBytes. PS: Yah, we all know this kind of stuff ain't fun and we feel your pain. Look at it this way, no other website would support your request at the level it is being supported (for free - no cost).
Thanks for the advice. Seeing as how I don't have many issues except with this game, I just restarted my Ironman game and am making occasional backups of the save file in case something goes wrong. So far I had one CTD since reaching 3rd level, so it's not *too* bad...
Ironman = bad. You're asking for trouble. Just play a normal game and impose your own ironman conditions on it. You'll be much happier.
