So when Temple of Elemental Evil came out I was excited because I actually played the module with a bunch of friends when we played D&D, but when I read reviews of it, I got turned off and never bought it (the reviews were really...really bad). Well fast forward to today and I just ordered it and it should be here soon, but I've read that in addition to patch1 and patch2, that it seems like the Co8 add-on to the game seems to really improve the experience (from what I've been reading). What I'd like is suggestions on what exactly I should install for an optimal play experience? I get patch1\2, but what C08 stuff should I install (v5.5?). Thanks for any input or suggestions .
Co8 5.5 beta is indeed the one to install. It improves on all the earlier patches (which are no longer supported) and contains all the important earlier additional material too. Plus it comes bundled with the latest FrontEnd, TFE-X, which is more stable and hassle-free than previous incarnations (which themselves were very good).
You got it, V5.5.0. Follow the installation instructions and you should be pretty pleased with it.
Installing it under vista can be problematic. Here's a log of my progress, with the problems and solutions I found... http://www.co8.org/forum/showthread.php?t=7162 I found that to uncompress the CO8 5.5.0 Beta mod file successfully (i.e. without conflicts) I had to launch the unzip program using 'Run as administrator' and then use its interface to unzip the file (just clicking on the icon of the file itself didn't work for me. It just caused conflicts).
Thanks all..that's what I thought...it's actually kind of nice knowing that a game that came out so long ago has such a responsive and lively player base still.
Just a reminder turning off UAC(User Access Control) also helps in running TOEE. I'm glad your getting this game because even with icewind dale and other related 3.0/3.5 D&D games TOEE is still by far my favorite. Plus with the CO8 modpack it makes it just that much more an excellent and challenging experience. These people are hardcore about there modpack and by far provide top notch support.
