I pretty much got this idea while searching for the meaning of the npc reaction values on the board. I stumbled upon this dead thread: http://www.co8.org/forum/showthread.php?t=1715 The main problem with including new music is basically the license, although Creative Commons makes this much easier (since identifying music one can distribute is much easier). So, that much being said, I found these pages: http://www.mikseri.net/artists/?id=48148 http://www.mikseri.net/artists/?id=48147 http://www.mikseri.net/artists/?id=48150 (To a lesser extent) Also quite good and under the same CC license: http://www.saunalahti.fi/mattpaa/ (The first track really reminds me of some old CRPG combat music ;-) Every track on that page can be redistributed non-commercially (true for Co8) and if attribution is included (no problem). I only listened to a handful of the tracks on those pages, but the ones I listened to are almost perfect as background music... I think it's a great thing to look forward to. Let me know what you think! Regards, Storm
Not sure exactly what you're proposing here - replacing the game's music and distributing it with the new engine version of the Co8 mod? If so, I'm against that. Basically I feel that we have a duty to maintain the aesthetics of the game (art direction, atmosphere, music) as much as possible, and nothing 'guts' the original mood of a game more than removing the original score. I was not initially a big fan of ToEE's soundtrack, though I've come to appreciate it over the years. But regardless, like it or not, it's part and parcel of ToEE's identity. It is ToEE.
No, I am actually more interested in *new* content But anyhow. Having the option to add new tracks *if they fit* should always be good. I also found that ToEE originally reused too many of their tracks throughout the game, which led to a subjective feeling that their music/sound department was really not that good, unlike the visual department. Regards, Storm
If you mean to augment the soundtrack with additional material, that can be problematic too, as any material generated by a different artist will by it's nature be aesthetically different ... which will cause disharmony overall, imo. Sorry if I seem excitable about this, but I'm actually first and foremost a sound guy (only branched out into other modding by necessity), so matters like these hit close to home. btw, we've alleviated the repetetiveness problem to a small degree by carefully reworking the soundschemes in the Co8 mod and using all the available tracks more evenly. In vanilla, there were a few that were hardly used at all.
I generally play with the sound and party banter off. Never have cared for the ToEE soundtrack and the childish lame text. Some Richard Wagner overture would make good fighting/combat music tho.
