Yup. Gonna go with ironman mode for my first TOEE Co8 playthrough. So, I would like some feedback on my party.

    1. CG half orc fighter
    str 20
    dex 16
    con 17
    int 14
    wis 14
    cha 9

He'll use the best 2 handed weapon he can get. Question, does a 2 handed sword has the same reach as a glaive? I've been lurking on several forums and most people suggest a glaive for the AOOs.

    2. CG human cleric of pelor. str + good domain
    str17
    dex 14
    con 16
    int 13
    wis 18
    cha 13

I plan to make this character a tank. With the best armor, shield and best one handed weapon. Hopefully she will live long enough to use the uber bastard swords.

    3. Thief/fighter(not rolled yet)

Will give this character high dex + intelligence. This character will be the all rounder + ranged damage dealer. How many thief levels is enough?

    4. Wizard
    An obvious choice.

    5. Question, should I go with another tank, or a sorcerer?

go pure rogue or just give it a few levels of fighter to boost combat abilities and go fighter instead of sorcerer.

also don't play ironman unless your happy to see hours of gameplay go down the shitter when the game randomly crashes. A better way is to just play a normal game, save often, but never reload unless you get a TPK.

That's bad news...I can stand losing to a bad tactical decsion, but not to a random crash

a barbarian or could work for your last slot. a 2nd fighter would be best suited to guarding your mage, make an archer with quickdraw so they can enter melee at the last minute.

    Hmm, - no - a greatsword/greataxe has a range of 5ft, like onehanded weapons.

    Reach:
Polearms / Spiked Chain (/Whips, not in here)

If you like HARD games, use the point-buy system for character creation and max the hp per dice of the monsters, using the front end, while don't max your charakters hp. ;)

    For your missing character:
Consider a Tank - Dwarf Fighter, Human Paladin - that like.

Dorf: nice tripper, faster in heavy armor, +vs spells
Pala: okay - dont like palas, but they got a point standing in a balors' fear-aura ;)

    - tip for the 2hd-barb - don't underestimate the benefits of bucklers...

    just my 2 cents

You have already too many warriors in your party IMHO.
A barbarian, a cleric tank, and a rogue thief are more than enough. (maybe, instead of rogue/fighter, you can go for rogue/ranger)

    You can go for Druid:
Awesome damaging spells, it can be tanked easily, or tank any other character by buffing, plus, if you need backup you can summon critters anytime by shift-clicking any spell. Give him a longspear or a sling, and can be a deadly backup warrior.

@mongerman: Please do not use Autosave and do not use Quicksave. That'll normally cause problems.

fyi - Cujo already gave the advice when stating play a one PC character normal game.

Thanks for all the feedback guys. I think I'll just go with the fighter, cleric, rogue and wizard, and make up for whatever is lacking along the way.

thats not a bad idea, If you're going to be using the frontend (recommended) set the PC/NPC ratio to 4/4 and turn on humble NPCs, then you can make up the rest of you're party with NPCs while they don't piss you off by looting every little thing in site.

After some rolling, I've created these new characters

    1. Rogue5/fighter5

    Str 18
    Dex 16
    Con 14
    Int 18
    Wis 12
    Cha 15

Took MANY rerolls to get these stats. He'll be the party diplomant, thief, and still be able to deal serious dmg with fighter levels and 3d6 sneak attack. I plan to take usual fighter feats with him, and TWF as well

    2. Cleric of pelor (good, sun)

    str 16
    dex 14
    con 14
    int 12
    wis 18
    chr 16

My healer/secondary tank. Will take cleave, power attack and combat reflexes

    3. Half Orc fighter

    str 20
    dex 16
    con 16
    int 13
    wis 12
    cha 7

The typical fighter with a glaive.

    4. Wizard

    str 10
    dex 11
    con 16
    int 18
    wis 13
    cha 12

    Item crafter and bombardier.

    How does this party look?

If you gave the cleric the Good domain, don't forget to give him the Craft Magic Arms and Armor feat. Holy damage is probably the best property you can add to a weapon in this game, as it adds a fat 2d6 to all hits on evil opponents (which means almost everything you will fight.)

Thanks for the advice. Question bout the rogue/fighter build. I'm actually more of a hack and slash player. Would a r1, f2, f3, r4 progression, ending at roughly r3/f7 have enough skill points to cover most needs? I'm thinking of this route to take advantage of the high str and dex to use the spiked chain for AoOs galore!

I have found that 3 levels in rogue give enough skill points to get you through the game - the only exception is the electrical trap in lvl 4 of the Temple, but there are ways to get around that anyways.

IMO, if you are going to go with a reach weapon, use a glaive instead of the spiked chain - the damage is greater and you don't have to use an EWP. The game doesn't figure the 10' reach quite RAW, which basically negates the advantages the spiked chain give in pnp D & D.

@Cujo, I know about that trick, but if I did that i would be too tempted to give my characters godly scores.

    @erkper, thanks for the info
