Hey, i can't seem to get mother screng to join up. I'm playing with the co8-4.0.0 mod enabled. I have chaotic good party and i have been with otis to the temple, when i get back to nulb he leaves and i tell him i could use some help to take out the temple factions. He suggests we ask mother screng for help, but when i speak with her i don't have any option to have her join. I tried talking to her with a party of only otis and my 3 PC's (level 4/4/5). Am i missing someting? (i also noticed a character with low level intelligence can get a hint that mother screng is hiding someting)

    Spoiler

Does a dialog come up when you enter with otis, something to the effect of otis explaining to mother, why he is there with you and her saying something back to him, I am not sure if it just happens or you have to initiate dialog first. Meanwhile I'll pull up the dialog and have a look at it to see if I can shed more light on this for you.
    Edit-
Yes that is the way its supposed to work, if Otis is with you and you go into the shop, she asks Otis what the Blacksmith is doing in her shop.... and it goes from there, it should happen automatically, just Otis's presense triggers it there are no alignment checks. The other sense motive check you were talking about should work with any character not just the low intell, models if they have a high enough sense motive skill level. I ran a test party though from a save in 4.0.0 and everything worked with Otis- Mother S.

Since it runs from a script open you data\scr directory and delete all the files with the .pyc entension to see if recompiling the script works to fix the problem. Thats all I know for you to try.

Yo, that did the trick. Thanks a bunch rufnredde. One thing though, the dialog doesn't start automatically when you enter the shop with otis; you have to talk to mother screng and tell her otis said you should talk with her. The only annoying thing now is that she thinks there's no room for her and murfles, even though i only have fruella and otis on the team (and the 5 npc thing enabled) :p ah well, maybe some wiz will come around to solve this sometime. Thanks again. ;)

Glad that worked, let me think here a minute, oh yeah the "butt in", which is what someone named the script element that allows the NPC's to talk together, does happen automatically,- once you start talking, I missed that part of the trigger, thanks I'll remember that for future reference.

Don't look for a solution to this in the future my friend, if you are running the front-end, the solution is at hand.

    Open the ToEE Front-End:
Click on - Modify Maximum Number Of Players in The Party
This brings up a little box of the same name
Within the box there are two lines:
1)Maximum Number of PC's in Party - followed by a box containing a number between 3-8 and arrows to adjust the number up and down.
    2)Maximum Number of NPC's - Followed by a number.

The number of party members always totals 8, but you can control the PC-NPC ratio anywhere from 8 - PC's/0 - NPC's down to 3 - PC's/5 - NPC's. Since you said you are running a party of 3 PC's you can adjust this to fit your needs.

    Click Update close the box
    Click Save your Settings
Restart the game and off you go, just a little bit less annoyed:)

A word of warning though, loading a save with a party of more than 3 with your set to three may have unexpected results. So you have to exit, adjust and restart anythime you want to change the player configuration.

Please feedback to me whether this works, it definately should. If it doesn't I will look a bit deeper and find out why.

Edit - sorry I can't read sometimes you said you do have the 5 npc thing enabled, I will find out how they wrote the NPC check for that, the solution probably lies there. I am going to leave all that stuff, I typed above it may help someone else out sometime.

Edit 2 - Okay then here you go, just remove the .txt extension from the end of this, and copy it over the file already in your data\dlg folder, Screng should join up with you. Let me know if it works:)
