Sorry I'm rather late with this reply. Hope it still helps someone. The following three posts were all made to this particular thread way back on December 28th, 2011 and so I'm posting my reply into the same thread here. I have converted SteelWraith's Royo portrait pack to work with each NC mod pack that I've downloaded. My most recent version works for 7.1.0 and if there's an interest, you can download the 2.3 MB rar file from HERE. Perhaps even Gaear would like to include it on the Optional Portraits page. The installation is the same as any other portrait pack; just unzip/unrar the pack into the ToEE installation directory and the portraits will be available for selection when creating new characters. Reminder- you can only have one (1) portrait pack installed. EDIT: I just now made a new version for 7.6.0 and you can download the 2.4 MB rar file from HERE. IMPORTANT- I did not play test this new version yet; I only updated the "portraits.mes" file from the current release contained in the Portraits Made Easy pack posting from Gaear. Also noteworthy, gazra_1971's Game Guide & Walkthrough is amazing  I'd like to add something to Chapter 29. Secret game content: For me, a Cleric casting Raise Dead is much more useful because it can be cast during combat to bring a PC or NPC back into the fight; whereas a Druid can only cast a Reincarnate spell out of combat thus depriving your fallen commrade of revenge upon that which killed him/her, and their fair share of experience after the battle is won. On the big battle with the infamous Slavers (Verbobonc Quest), the battle is rigged so that enough experience is awarded afterwards to completely recover all the experience lost by dying (and then being raised from the dead while still in battle), but only if the PC/NPC is alive when the battle is finally won. I do hope my ramblings here have been helpful to someone; or at the very least have provided some amusement factor because I've said something stupid :dizzy: Royo Portrait Pack for Mod Pack 7.1.0 I've tested it and it works flawlessly on 7.1.0 but I have not tested it on 7.6.0 yet. Any problems let me know. New Royo Portrait Pack for Mod Pack 7.6.0 Cover Sheet: EDIT - Important Note: Due to multiple versions and revisions of this character pack, I have removed -ALL- download links. The pack -IS- still available; however, I removed the files here because: 1.) I don't want inferior versions floating around aimlessly, and 2.) I'm Neutral Good and I hate Chaos. To download the latest version, please go to Gaear's Optional Portraits Page, or send me a PM for the current download link.
Re: Circle of Eight Modpack v7 / v7 NC General Commentary & Discussion Thread @Morgo, the Royo portraits look cool, thanks. That is, the idea of them seems cool. Can you upload them somewhere else? I'd like to check them out but that site is real winner - wait 30 seconds, click a button, wait 90 more seconds, click another button and discover it's the wrong button and that you're downloading a download manager, start over, etc., etc. That kind of stuff drives me crazy after only 20 seconds so I don't stand a chance there. I'd say there's a very good chance we'd host it here as an official portrait pack btw, provided everything is in order.
Re: Circle of Eight Modpack v7 / v7 NC General Commentary & Discussion Thread Thanks for the reply Gaear. Yes, I agree with you about the hosting site choice, sorry about that . It was a no-frills simple free site that worked with my outdated (using MS IE v8, the last vrs for WinXP) browser. Where would you like me to post or send the 2 files to ? Each is less than 2.5 MB in rar format. I'd be honored if you choose to include it into the official optional portrait pack download page. Steelwraith abondoned the project long ago, but I've kept using it and updating it. To make updates easy, I've kept the same file naming convention as the "portraits made easy" pack, with the only change being the Royo pack has one more portrait than the PME pack does. I take the portraits.mes file from the latest PME pack and add the 5 lines for the additional portrait and the update is done, provided the numbering sequence didn't change between PME versions. Just let me know what you'd like me to do. Always glad to help however I can. If it matters for testing, I'm using WinXP SP2, 2 GB RAM, Celeron 3.20 GHz CPU, ATI Radeon XPress 200 video, Realtek HD 6 ch audio, and a Sony KDL-V32XBR2 HD 32" flatscreen monitor with native resolution of 1360 x 768 60 Hz 32 bit. I'm also using the original boxed set ToEE installation and still use the 176 page printed manual that came with it
Re: Circle of Eight Modpack v7 / v7 NC General Commentary & Discussion Thread Maybe try Mediafire or something like that. Or do you have Google Drive or Skydrive et al?
Re: Circle of Eight Modpack v7 / v7 NC General Commentary & Discussion Thread Guess I don't have to keep quoting since our posts are consecutive I opened a new free account at MediaFire. I ignored their opening message of "It appears you are using an older browser. For a better experience when using MediaFire, we recommend you upgrade your browser." (see screencap here) Despite the warning, I was still able to use their site without IE getting upset and crashing Not all sites are that forgiving... I activated the new free account, so it will allow more than 50 downloads, but their retention time is poor. The download links are: LINK REMOVED BY MORGO-SEE NOTE BELOW LINK REMOVED BY MORGO-SEE NOTE BELOW Hope this helps, and if you need me to put them somewhere else just let me know where. Re: Circle of Eight Modpack v7 / v7 NC General Commentary & Discussion Thread Okay I got it this time, thanks. One click and I'm downloading.
Re: Circle of Eight Modpack v7 / v7 NC General Commentary & Discussion Thread You got 'em, that's great news Thanks for letting me know. I hope they work out for you, and possibly get shared with countless others too
Re: Circle of Eight Modpack v7 / v7 NC General Commentary & Discussion Thread Hey Morgo, Have you looked at DivShare, it's a file storage site that is pretty easy to use. I used their free version for quite a while, then I bought some space with them.
Re: Circle of Eight Modpack v7 / v7 NC General Commentary & Discussion Thread @Sirchet Thanks, I remember Divshare but it's been a long while since I used them. I've tried most file storage sites, even those unavailable in USA (via public proxy). Lately, my limitations are dictated by my outdated (but current MS release) IE browser. My anger issues with Microsoft span several decades, this is just the latest; but, this too shall pass. @Gaear I know that being handed someone else's pet project and then incorporating it into your own work is a pain; but hopefully, since the character pack is an active implementation of your own design specs from Portraits Made Easy, you won't encounter any problems. If you do, just let me know what changes you want made and I'll resubmit it. I've enjoyed the pack for many years, and I think it's great that you're taking the time to examine the pack for possible inclusion with the other pack selections. IMHO, the pack is nice enough that it deserves to be shared with others.
Re: Circle of Eight Modpack v7 / v7 NC General Commentary & Discussion Thread Right on. Okay I checked them out and everything looks good but one thing - the small and mini portraits don't have the 1 pixel black border around the edge. That's actually not a 'mission-critical' thing but we do like the official packs to be as pro as possible, and the lack of a border causes the small and minis to shift a bit if they transition from color to black and white. I know it's a pita but could you add the border to them? I'm not sure if your a Photoshop guy but if you are, this can be done easily by simply adding a 1 pixel black-around-the-edge layer, with the interior being transparent.
Re: Circle of Eight Modpack v7 / v7 NC General Commentary & Discussion Thread @ConjurerDragon Is your thieves' tools a masterwork item ? (more valuable because better quality tools with a +2 bonus for skills of open lock and disable device). If so, you might want to hold onto them instead of selling. Although the masterwork version is avail throuout the game at various locations, it's not a very common item; and, it's very handy to have when you need it. @Gaear It's excellent that you and/or others included program code to handle the variable of a solo party vs the slavers. May I suggest that knowledge be added to gazra_1971's Game Guide & Walkthrough ? Good catch on the images, I never noticed that. I'm not a big Photoshop guy; but I will work on fixing them. I'll send a PM with more info. @Number99 First off, congrats on going solo ! May I ask what class you selected for the task ? You mentioned you have the feat great cleave (w/ cleave and power attack) so I presume paladin or fighter ? A solo 20th lvl vs the slavers sounds like a good fight with challenge. Definately go for it. When you go it alone, keep in mind that after the battle starts the evil slaver sorceress can/will still cast finger of death (and other spells including greater invisibility) during combat. The slavers are a well equiped and balanced group with tactics, and have a powerfull cleric. Plan ahead, pick your targets wisely, and prioritize. As for your "group of one" dialog plurals: Wherever you go; there you are. You will allways be an army of one. Me, myself and I salute you. EDIT- I can create a layer with a 1 pixel black border. The saved tga image meets full specs. I made 5 screencap images of what I'm doing and selecting, and put them into a 400kb rar file at http://www.mediafire.com/file/h7kvsy8xacyfejx/Images.rar Before I edit the 72 affected images, would you check my process ? I just want to get the job done right the -first- time
Re: Circle of Eight Modpack v7 / v7 NC General Commentary & Discussion Thread @Gaear (or anyone else too) OK, I'm done with the editing. Sorry it took so long. If you peeked at the previously posted images.rar file for my procedure, I modified one thing- on step 3 I changed the opacity to 50% so as to best match the other portrait pack design displays. The new and improved version can be had from: Edit- Outdated link removed. See post # 21 below for current links. Due to multiple versions and revisions of this character pack, I have removed -ALL- previously posted download links, because: 1.) I don't want inferior versions floating around aimlessly, and 2.) I'm Neutral Good and I hate Chaos. On each effected previous post, I included a variant of the above reason and the following notation: To download the latest version, please go to Gaear's Optional Portraits Page, or send me a PM for the current download link. Hope this new version meets specs, and just let me know what you need. After you get and inspect this pack revision, I'll wipe this link too . . .
Re: Circle of Eight Modpack v7 / v7 NC General Commentary & Discussion Thread Thanks Morgo, I'll check it out soon.
Re: Circle of Eight Modpack v7 / v7 NC General Commentary & Discussion Thread LOL, too funny. Especially when it's true, aye?
Re: Circle of Eight Modpack v7 / v7 NC General Commentary & Discussion Thread Yes  I've lived my life true to form. Perhaps later I'll update my bio with some 'fun facts' about myself to really amuse folks General Question: What is the max number of add-on character portraits ? I strongly remember that there is a cap based on the value the game engine can handle. The Icewind Dale pack has 83, so I know that's safe. I've been unable to find an answer on my own via reading logical post selections and by searching terms. Can anyone give me a Clue card ? Also, what is the general frequency (most likely, likely, or not likely will do for a reply-I don't need exact numbers) of NC mod packs adding character portraits with new releases; since, this value would decrease the max value of add-on pack content. I'm contemplating making some major changes to the Royo pack. I'm thinking of increasing the overall cropped area from/using the original artwork for a few of the 'big' portrait images so more of the character can be seen there; and, adding many more new portraits from the 1,000 HiRes works of his that I've accumulated. I will wait untill the current pack is completed to Co8 standards before I grab my scissors and glue though This new incarnation of mine will go back into the 'pet project' status for my personal use only, since several of the female character portraits will invariably have exposed breasts and/or nipples visable  and that's not suitable for general content here. I know famous artwork is not porn; but, some people get offended easily and I don't want that. We're already close to the edge with the Nulb brothel/Porky's Revenge quests (BTW, I just -love- what NPC Pishella says when you take her upstairs there) I will continue to offer my full support and make any requested changes for the official public pack version to keep it updated and such. I'm also willing to sign off the pack over to Gaear and just bask in the glow of a job well done. Either one is OK by me. If Gaear does take over, I would like to request that I can send in (for pack inclusion into the docs dir) a small text file containing info on the artist Luis Royo and a list of the names of his paintings that the portraits were cropped from, as a sign of respect. If anyone wants to see the collection of paintings (HiRes jpgs) that the pack was made from, just PM me and I'll send you a link to the 12MB rar file.
