I wanted to get the opinion of some of you old time DM's about this feat. Is it really overpowered. I noticed it isn't in TOEE, but I think it's used in the Grey Wolf setting. Just wondering, all opinions welcome
I think its terribly overpowered, at least at the level it is given. Part of the trade off for becoming the ultimate dual wielding warrior of doom is getting a reduced chance to hit. Monkey grip takes most of this disadvantage away from the character. Opinions may vary, but I think its another sop to the kids today who want to be the super dragon slayer, right out of the box. :dead:
monkey grip lets you wield a weapon that would normally be 2 big for you to wield for example your halfling barbarian could use a great axe... Prerequisite: BAB +1 Benefit: You can use melee weapons one size category larger than you are with a -2 penalty on the attack roll, but the amount of effort it takes to use the weapon does not change. For instance, a large longsword (a one-handed weapon for a large creature) is considered a two-handed weapon for a medium creature that does not have this feat. For a Medium creature that has this feat, it is still considered a one-handed weapon. You can wield a larger light weapon as a light weapon, or a larger two-handed weapon with two hands. You cannot wield a larger weapon in your offhand, and you cannot use this feat with a double weapon.
I also think it's a little to much to early, it would be better suited if you had to choose which weapon you could wield this way. Like weapon focus does. Maybe this is why it's not seen in most crpg's.
monkey grip on your girlfriends/big fat fatty boyfriends boobs wouldn't be the best idea - making something that would normally require two hands to be used in one in effect making large into meduim
