So, first off, the base Toee Steam version is, to my understanding, the Co8 and temple+ version, but with zero new content. First off, you will need to do these modifications to the Steam game folder (C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\The Temple of Elemental Evil) https://steamcommunity.com/app/3843520/discussions/0/682988196226689105/ In short, open the game once, make some changes to the ini file, then do some copying, deleting, and renaming of the dll (all the instructions are in the Steam discussion link above) To get the installation like you would with the GoG version you can install the modpacks from the start (co8 8.1 in the game folder in Steam, then the temple plus configuration. In my case, it required me to install Java, and after all of that, your modded ToEE will start as intended, but from the temple plus executable! Now, to make the game launch from there, through Steam, do the following Go to your ToEE in Steam, right click, properties, and in the Launch Options field, add the following " "C:\Users\*your user name*\AppData\Local\TemplePlus\TemplePlus.exe" %command% " This depends on where in your computer's temple+ installs its files. In my case, I found it through the start menu and tracked down the location of its installation, in your case, it may vary Best of luck, and let's make that play time skyrocket!
I have the original setup disks with two separate game directories: one for Temple+ and the other for FrontEnd. Do I need to care about this Steam version? How is it remastered?
The Steam version is currently suffering with some teething issues, if you have a working version of ToEE that you are happy with, you're probably in a better place than those with only the Steam version. Specifically the Co8 mod and Temple+ mod bundled into the Steam version have both been trimmed down, a number of NPC portraits from even the original ToEE release version are missing, the respawning merchant inventories fix is broken resulting in merchants having no items available to sell, the Shop Map is gone, the kids are nigh invincible, the Extraplanar Chest is broken, the extra races and subraces in Temple+ are gone as are the additional classes and prestige classes. I hope they manage to get the issues fixed soon as I fear it may reflect badly on us... even though it's the SNEG team doing the work.
"the extra races and subraces in Temple+ are gone as are the additional classes and prestige classes." Unless I'm mistaken, the steam version has always claimed not to take additions other than corrections.
Found this post through Google, just wanted to say I wrote a full Steam guide on modding the Steam version. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3623934050
Thank you for your thorough, illustrated and much needed instructions post to help people get the best playing experience of ToEE with the Steam version of the game.
Not a problem, I'm glad people are finding it helpful and a whole new audience is still able to experience the Co8 content.
Just wanted to let you all know, I updated my guide to include a brief history of the game, instructions on installing KotB and the Paladin's Cove Beta, as well as a link to these forums (I hope that's alright) in the section about Co8. If any of the info regarding Co8 is incorrect please PM me on here and I will get it corrected as soon as possible. And thanks for all the work the team has put in over the years for one of my favorite games ever made!
