Its that time again! I need some help doing .dlg files. Specifically, there are some NPCs who need some dialogue: the 2 servants in the basement of the Merchants Guild, and some new NPCs in the Inner Bailey: a chef for the Mess, some ordinary soldiers, a servant or two. These are obviously not plot-critical characters so you won't have to implement complicated quests or keep track of flags, just some interesting dialogue to add depth to the game. - Yes, you will have to create a proper .dlg file - No, you won't have to do any complicated scripting - Yes, you can add minor quests - No, they can't be secret agents of Lolth, or Orcus, or anything other than they appear: just ordinary folks you would meet in a military post. - Yes, your name will be sung down through the ages as a contributor to the KotB mod! Just PM me or reply here if you are interested List of NPCs Servant 1 in Merchant Guild Cellar Servant 2 in Merchant Guild Cellar Chef of Inner Bailey's Mess Cavalry Stableboy LG Inner Keep Guardsman NG Inner Keep Guardsman CG Inner Keep Guardsman LN Inner Keep Guardsman Anyone else you think really needs to be in there. (Like a ratcatcher).
Well, crack open a .dlg file and think about what you would neeed to learn to write one Basically its just numbers pointing here and there, with the occasional conditional: if you want to only allow a CE character, or a Fighter, or an Ef, to see a line, you say so (or if a certain quest is active, etc). Very straightforward, plenty of help available for folks who want to help out, and there's a tutorial HERE.
I may not be able to assist with the actual "dll modding" but if you're looking for help in creating the dialogue, I'd be more than happy to assist. We can PM suggestions, submissions, etc between each other, to keep in off the radar until complete.
Its .dlg modding, not .dll - whole other kettle of sturgeon But I already have a whole bucketload of .txt files of dialogue people have sent in, so I have to be a hard-ass and insist on proper .dlg files. That being said, go to data/dlg (of KotB or Co8, either is good), open a file and take a look: they are really not that hard to do. And for your first effort, you can just take an existing one if you like and copy your new dialogue over it, then run the game and see what happens. Sharp-eyed people will have already noticed Milo is just a re-write of Pishella, and he does fine.
CRAP! That leaves me out. I removed all of the ToEE folders/files awhile ago. Still haven't been able to get my DVD drives fixed, so no way of loading the game in again to take a look. Sorry.
I'll do it. Never done much modding before but I'm a quick study (when I have a trusty tutorial at hand)
I'll think of something for you, Emirkol Welcome aboard Kneller1: pick an NPC (or 2) from the updated original post you'd like to work on
