Hi! I'm new to these forums, and have a question.

Is it OK to request a simple item be added to the game, or should I DIY?
I'm looking for the best light armor in the game (for anyone but a wizard/sorcerer); the mithral breastplate. It's not in the SRD list of items, but is a valid 3.5 ed. rules item.

So, is this a valid request, or should I be looking at the protos.tab file myself?

    Thanks,
    -Chemus

P.S. Fun mod, makes lotsa stuff cleaner.

There are no invalid requests, only invalid... wait, that joke doesn't work.

There will be no 'new' protos.tab coming out in the near future, afaik, due to the KotB demo and RL issues for the modders involved. I mean it will come out, but not in the next day or so or anything. So you would be better doing it yourself.

Open protos.tab with either Phalzyr's ProtoEd or Agetian's ToEEWB, and remember to make a backup first ;) Then it should be straightforward: there are mithral items to compare, there are breastplates to look at, you know the appropriate value / weight / armour type etc from the rules, you should have no problems. :)

Thanks for the prompt reply Shining One!

So, taking that into consideration, is there a way to make a single file update so that others can choose to use the changes I may make. Clarification: If anyone here play(s/ed) MS's Freelancer, there is a mod manager for it too; FreeLancer Mod Manager. It allows for scripted changes to game definition files, and to a main .dll. Does 'toffee' do this?

well if you just want to make a mithral breast plate and use existing skins all you'll need to do is edit the protos.tab and descritions.mes if you're running the latest CMF so use that as a base then you'll be able to jaust add it into the game at the end of the 6000 number range and it could be incorpirated easily into the next CMF when it eventually comes out.

OK, so I've kludged my way through making the Mithral Breastplate by rules as written, & made it no. 6650. Is there a way to just export that part, or do I have to upload the entire protos.tab+descriptions.mes ?

I ask because I have incorporated many of the things on the CMF thread that are NOT part of the CMF (such as the samurai armor fix) and really don't wanna have to reinstall (to make sure that I don't corrupt others' data).

    Thanks for the help folks!

if you upload it, then when it comes time for the next CMF it'll all get sorted out.
