    Can someone please explain:

Ah Fong sells Dwarven Plate. I bought it to see but it looks like Royal armour with no special qualities. It is base +8 with only +1 dex. Just like full plate. Royal armour (like Thrommel's) should have +3 dex but the one you can buy is only +1. But with all of this, why is Dwarven plate's base cost 20,000+ gp?????? With no special qualities, I find it a hard buy. Or maybe I am missing something. At least Dragonhide plate looks cool, but it seems Marauder armour is actually better (+8 dex), but I prefer Mithral myself. Could someone clarify this. Dwarven plate is supposed to be stronger and lighter but the game stats don't bear this out.

Here's what it says about dwarven plate at d20srd.org:

    Dwarven Plate
This full plate is made of adamantine, giving its wearer damage reduction of 3/-.

So it absorbs 3HP from most weapons and natural attacks.
I've never used it in ToEE, so I can't vouch for the authenticity, but I'm pretty sure it will do the business.

You can masterwork it, so I am assuming that it is worth buying and magiking then? I have a Dwarf in mind for it, so I will try it out. I just think for something that expensive it should be more "obvious" that it is far superior, like being lightweight.

DR 3/-- is pretty bloody good if you ask me. Especially as 20k gold is nothing to a party of the appropriate level. Well balanced item IMO.

Unfortunately the nonmagical or "semi-magical" items with useful special properties don't really have any descriptions to check out so you can see what they do, and obviously "Identify" or its ilk won't help either (only works on magic stuff, natch). Your big hint that it is useful is that huge price tag. That says it's something cool--so you equip it and check out the roll detail when the wearer goes into a fight. Voila... DR 3/-! Woo!

That said, if I have my way those items WILL eventually get right-click descriptions, if I have to write them myself.

And thank you for the work. I am not computer literate myself, but a longtime D+Der, and I would expect the armour to be a little more obvious. When you get Thrommels plate armour, not only do you get the +8 base but also the +3 dex bonus, whereas others are only +1. You can guess what happened to him...........

And, yes, the Verbobonc CSI Majestic Coroner final report for the slaying of Prince Thrommel contains something about a mysterious lead slug in pristine condition--the same lead slug is purported to have exited and re-entered his body 5 times prior to his death. There was also an eyewitness account report of some strangely behaving freakish looking person running away from the temple blurting aloud manacially screaming something about smyth & westrealm of which is still under investigation.

My fixes, which are going to be included in Co8 4.1 have right-click descriptions for most, if not all, magical items.

I know, Kal, we were talking about non-magical (or semi-magical) items like the adamantine plate armor. Though if you missed any of the actually magic items in your comprehensive desc updating I'll never stop giving you crap about it... you know me. :txtsmilie

I did things like the mithral shirt, darkwood shield and dwarven plate as well. Basically, if it does something that's not readily obvious, I tried to give it a description.

What is the deal with the Darkwood shield anyway? I am an old school D+D'er (where originally elfin chain was NOT allowed to be magical) and I am at a loss to understand how it is better over, say, a mithral shield (which I can easily see).

It's made of wood. Druids can use it.

Druids like to chop down trees and make wooden things out of them. Leaving the tree standing and alive, the dryad unharmed, the animals with their nests intact etc, and making the same item out of metal, is anathema to a Druid.

Ok, that one was pure spam <wanders off>

<wanders back seconds later> and what about Druid hide, wtf is the deal with that???
