This has bothered me since ToEE first came out, but why does no (or at least virtually no)masterwork armor or shield have its Armor Check Penalty reduced by 1?

From the SRD: "Just as with weapons, you can purchase or craft masterwork versions of armor or shields. Such a well-made item functions like the normal version, except that its armor check penalty is lessened by 1. "

Thus masterwork studded leather, a small shield, or buckler should have no armor check penalty, etc. In addition, mithral armor has its armor check penalty reduced by 3, 1 for (automatically) being masterwork, and another 2 for being mithral.

Is this intentional (if so, I'll just shut up) or an oversight? If it's an oversight, it is something that can be reasonably changed? (If not, I'll still shut up.)

It works. If you are just hovering over the equipment and looking at the stats at the bottom it doesn't seem to be taken into account, but if you equip it and check your skills, it works. (For masterwork anyway - dunno about mithral).

That's freaking hilarious. I never would have thought to actually check the results of the rolls. Nice work!

Is there any reasonable way to make the listed stats reflect the actual properties?

No, not a reasonable way - short answer, those stats reflect the actual stats of the item before the 'masterwork' condition is added.

    Thanks for the info, ST.

Can I make a request (I haven't seen one around ToEE or KotB yet): mithral breastplate?

AC bonus +5, Max Dex bonus +5, Armor Check Penalty -1, Spell Failure 15%, Speed 30 ft, 20ft, weight 15 lbs, light armor, masterwork, 4250 gp

Edit: love the mithral chainshirt, full plate and shields, BTW. From a mechanical perspective, I know it's not a lot different from the mithral chainshirt, or even masterwork gladiator and maruader armor, but I think it looks cool (main reason for wanting it) and does offer a bit more protection for those moments when Dex AC bonuses are nullified.

    Edit Edit:
How about a mithral tower shield? Shield bonus +4, Max Dex bonus +4, Armor Check penalty -7, Spell Failure 40%, Weight (1/2 of whatever the metal tower shield is in the game, can't remember off the top of my head), +1000 gp on top of price of metal tower shield.)
Also, a tower shield is supposed to impose a -2 penalty to attack roles while using one, but I don't think this is implemented in the game (of course, there's not supposed to be metal tower shields anyway ;) ). If the penalty is implemented, it could then be waived for the mithral tower shield.

Sure, request away :) Ah Fong always needs new inventory.

The Tower Shield penalty was never implemented (couldn't think of a way to do it, I mean there probably is one but what I tried didn't work) but then you don't get the Tower Shield bonus of total concealment either, so it sorta evens out.

The long text descriptions could be modified to include this information, but they would only appear when SHIFT+clicking the items in the inventory, and wouldn't appear at all after renaming an item during crafting.

Aside: is it possible to make it so that the SHIFT descriptions are retained following crafting?

Just place the cursor on the weapon and it gives you the current status. Like, Longsword+3FlamingFlamingBurst, etc. No need to use shift.

Hum, i think that already magical weapons, that are crafted more, lose their description.

Iirc, once i added the holy enhancement to the frost brand, and all teh description was gone.

Not sure, but probably because when you uber-craft an item with description, the proto still keeps the same for the weapon, but the game odesn't recognize the crafted weapon as it was.
