I've never really tried to kill Iuz before but I hear it is possible and I want to try to do it this time around. If I remember its only a few rounds before St. Cuthbert shows up and stops the fight. What are the best builds and or tactics to kill him off?
Hi Foliowyrm Can I assume that you like to read ?? I can't speak for everyone, but what works for me is a CG Fighter with 10 -15 Stoneskin spells + Haste, wielding Scather while using "Power Attack" set to Maximum Damage ( Scather automatically hits ). I saw a post yesterday that showed the successful use of a "Periapt of Wound Closure" in the same fight. My tactics are simple, I do my best to eliminate all (or at least most of ) Hedrack's support troops ( the Ettins, Giants, Bugbears, Gargoyles, and Wizards ) without doing too much damage to Hedrack himself. While doing this, I move the Fighter forward so that once Iuz arrives, the fighter is the one Iuz is going to attack. You don't want Iuz attacking anyone but the fighter, because everytime Iuz attacks the Fighter he gets hit by Scather for lots of damage ( upwards of 30 - 40 HP per attack ), and this is automatic damage whereas everyone else has to hit first ( and the AC of Iuz is somewhere in the 40's if I remember correctly, so good luck with that ) and you only have 3 or 4 rounds to kill Iuz before Cuthbert shows up, so you need to maximize your damage. I've had luck with tripping him, using an enlarged halforc monk ,with Bull Strength and Belt of Giant Strength (STR at 29 at the time of the fight), with the feat Improved Trip. Now I did save before the fight, and if you don't get him in the first 2 rounds, you should start over. St Cuthbert did show up and heal me, but while Iuz was prone, he ignored him. I like to use a lot of summonings, Earth Elementals do good damage, and a Chain Devil has regeneration like a troll, so if you place one in front of Iua, he will attack it constantly, mine got to -450hps. I also like Spiritual Weapons, Iuz did target one of them and took it out in one hit, but better it than me. His spell resistance is high, but maybe 40% of my wizard's MM got through, and as noted above, Scather is a big help. Any Holy weapon can help in this fight.
