Alright. I played through this. I tried to use as little of the Walkthrough as possible, and then afterwards went through the walkthrough to see what I missed/what didn't work. 1) I missed The Poison Sub-Plot. I saw Nobby poison a blade, but when I asked him where to find poison, he didn't tell me, and I had already sold what I'd found. Possibly missed a gather information check? 2) Having to always remove a person from my party and run with 7 instead of 8 to successfully complete things was annoying. The merchant in the spider caves, the merchant in the hobgoblin caves. 3) I never completed suffregette city, probably because I let the merchant in the hobgoblin caves lead himself home, which means I didn't actually successfully rescue him? Which means I also never got the smith to sell masterwork stuff. 4) Riddle of the Shrine never completed because I handed the druid the vials. It took me forever to realize there wasn't an alter to use it on, but I just had to "use it" in general. 5) I missed all the Billy stuff. I never saw the commotion either, but seems easy to miss? 6) Kepler did not give me scrolls for completing One Big Harpy Family. My inventory was not full. 7) I never figured out Father Leamus was the dude for Who's Raiding the Trading. I made my rogue a circlet of persuasion and a cloak of charisma +4 and had max ranks gather information/intimidate/bluff/sense motive, but all Father Leamus ever wanted to do was drink, and none of the other quest dudes pointed back to him --- perhaps because I spoke to them once, failed the trigger, and then went back with buffed up stats? 8) I never figured out Caravan of Courage. What was it supposed to do? 9) I could never turn in Root of all Chaos. Nothing happened? 10) I looked up how to make the thieves guild thing work, and never could trigger it. I had 3 stolen items and kept going in and out of the pub, but...nothing. 11) Thul, the armorer in Lord Axer's place, never showed. 12) The Young Black Dragon Fight was excellent; my party had just hit level 3 and it was the perfect challenge. 13) By comparison, the rest of the game didn't seem ready for my party to be level 4 and later 5; most of the fights were pretty trivial. Especially the Caves of Chaos, which I left for last, but ended up feeling like a slugfest of trivial fights. (I played Fighter/Cleric/Druid/Wizard/Rogue, all straight classed, casters all item creation, fighter spiked chain trip, and rogue twf, plus Milo the sorcerer (evocations), the bard (heals and buffs), and the druid apprentice (mostly produce flame). When I finished, the Cleric/Druid were level 4 from item crafting, but the rest were just barely into level 5). 14) The Wizards' Fight and Riddle was excellent, but I sold the Golden Tiger Toy ages before I got to that area and had to console summon it. 15) I didn't try doing evil quests in the caves of chaos. Just slaughtered. The Ogre never showed up. His cave was empty except for treasure. 16) I was supposed to set up a trading caravan between Axer and the main city, by talking to "Jean-Luc Jallaise (Castellan) (104 HP)" in the Inner Keep. I never found him. I went to the Inner Keep several times. 17) I never saw the summoner special encounter, and I did a lot of confused wandering. ____________________________________________________________________________________ Overall, had quite a lot of fun, thought it was quite well done. The one persistent troublesome bug was random groups of NPC's (the pub, the bailiff) going hostile at random points, but if I backed up a save, went and did other random stuff for a while, then came back, it all sorted out. Thanks for the awesome work!
Hey due, thanks for the feedback, much appreciated! I will try to copy these issues to the bug thread if I can find the rusty keys for the 14 locks I out on it. re you issues: 1) I missed The Poison Sub-Plot. I saw Nobby poison a blade, but when I asked him where to find poison, he didn't tell me, and I had already sold what I'd found. Possibly missed a gather information check? Correct 2) Having to always remove a person from my party and run with 7 instead of 8 to successfully complete things was annoying. The merchant in the spider caves, the merchant in the hobgoblin caves. Yeah, they should be ai followers not joiners. I think I may have already changed that. 3) I never completed suffregette city, probably because I let the merchant in the hobgoblin caves lead himself home, which means I didn't actually successfully rescue him? Which means I also never got the smith to sell masterwork stuff. Interesting... had you already joined the Guild somehow before rescuing the Merchant? Seems tat is only an option for if you are not a member... that's a bug. 4) Riddle of the Shrine never completed because I handed the druid the vials. It took me forever to realize there wasn't an alter to use it on, but I just had to "use it" in general. The whole shrine is an altar. You did the right thing giving it to the Druids. 5) I missed all the Billy stuff. I never saw the commotion either, but seems easy to miss? Yeah. Little runt. 6) Kepler did not give me scrolls for completing One Big Harpy Family. My inventory was not full. That script seems to have been changed by some overly clever person... I'll test out this new version and see why it's not working. Yeah, if you fail, you fail, I tihnk... so you got through the quest up until that point? This was always meant to be the hardest quest in the game btw, one to really make you think and dare I even say retry... the answer is Spoiler You need someone with a good Knowledge (Nature) check to unmask him, or else at least someone with a good Spot check to notice something that someone with a good Knowledge (Nature) score can follow up. 8) I never figured out Caravan of Courage. What was it supposed to do? You know, I honestly can't remember. I'll have to run search. 9) I could never turn in Root of all Chaos. Nothing happened? I'll have to get back to you on that one too, I think it was finished by establishing that there was a Shrine of Evil Chaos in the Caves. Most of the monsters talked about it, but if you went in there and gave them a solid Lawful Good enema, it may not have come up. I think there was meant to be a back door way of completing that - a Lawful holocaust was always a distinct possibility - but I forget what it was, talking to the merchant prisoners maybe? 10) I looked up how to make the thieves guild thing work, and never could trigger it. I had 3 stolen items and kept going in and out of the pub, but...nothing. Probably a cat problem, they have since been overhauled. 11) Thul, the armorer in Lord Axer's place, never showed. I'lll check it out. Well, I can honestly say we did a major rebalancing, Sitra did a cunning program to work out where everyone would be level wise if you killed everything and we adjusted the XP leverage thing accordingly. I am still rebalancing the treasure situation. 14) The Wizards' Fight and Riddle was excellent, but I sold the Golden Tiger Toy ages before I got to that area and had to console summon it. Oops. 15) I didn't try doing evil quests in the caves of chaos. Just slaughtered. The Ogre never showed up. His cave was empty except for treasure. Did he show for the Goblin fight? it's easy to tell, he's the only Ogre in the game (possibly not counting random encounters). If not, he probably got summoned for that, then you finished them before he turned up. That's a bug. 16) I was supposed to set up a trading caravan between Axer and the main city, by talking to "Jean-Luc Jallaise (Castellan) (104 HP)" in the Inner Keep. I never found him. I went to the Inner Keep several times. No, you had to speak to the Master of the Guild, then return and tell Axer, irrespective of what the Master said. 17) I never saw the summoner special encounter, and I did a lot of confused wandering. Ok, thanks for reporting that, I think there were a couple of those special encounters that didn't happen. A pity, because they had unique treasure as well as encounters.
For 3) I joined the merchants guild with the spider silk and introduction from the dude in the cave in the spiders forest. The dude in the Hobgoblin Cave returned to town, but I never got credit for it because they weren't in my party, I guess? Was there no other way to complete Suffregette City? 14) Can you make some things unsellable, or harder to sell? A lot of things I found I couldn't sell (the dragonhead, alchemy regeants, etc), an important quest item like that seems like a good call, especially if someone isn't looking at the game guide. 15) Don't recall. 16) I spoke to the Master of the Guild, who said he'd love to set up a trade route, but couldn't do it without permission from the Castellan. I returned to Axer, and he says "Oh, that's great, go talk to the Castellan and get permission." I talked to the guards outside the main keep, and one of the text options was "I'm here to see the Castellan about a trade route." and when clicked, I got "Okay, we'll let the castellan know you're coming" and a move to the inner keep...at which point there was no Castellan. 17) I got the necromancer but not the summoner or the ranger.
The Ranger has a surprisingly bad sense of direction (kidding, kidding....) He shows up sometimes though. I'll check the summoner. Making quest items unsellable is a very good idea Ok. For Suffragette City, I would have thought there was multiple ways to do it, but they probably have to be done in a certain order... another one of those bugs that only playing reveals. The Merchant probably has to be escorted back to the Keep to sell his masterwork stuff though, that's unsurprising. And for the Guild thing - that's a surprise! I didn't think I had advanced it anywhere near that far: I thought it ended with you going back to Axer and telling him you needed to see the Castellan, and he said, "I'll take care of that" or something. Well, now I have to add someone's daughter to the oubliette under the Keep <sigh> It was a very convoluted plotline in the original docs. Anyways, thanks again for the feedback.
