Hey when my discs come what should i do? What patches should I get and are there any mods i should get? I loved BG series and am looking for a similar experiance.
read this thread... http://www.co8.org/forum/showthread.php?t=3300 you also might have to do what it says in this post... http://www.co8.org/forum/showpost.php?p=13774&postcount=7
The game just came today. I have installed the two patches and Co8. However, the front end will not start. The error says "the duplicate directory for the current default mode has been detected... I looked at the sticky thread and have turned off my anit-virus stuff. Any more ideas on how to fix the problem? the other solutions in the post do not make sense to me.
it's working now. but i didn't do anything... what ever i'm not complaining. soo this game is pretty sweet. i'm liking the dnd. any advice for me? what is good to do just starting out?
if you know a lot about dnd make the same sort of party you would've used in a pnp game, if you're a bit of a newbie a melee heavy party is a good place to start, for example modify the maximum number of players from 5/3 to 6/2 (when you add the 6th character at the start of the game they wont show up in the party lineup but if they've turned green then they're in) go for a rogue for your party spokesman (the left most PC) with social skill maxed out (skills that use charisma) then you'll want a cleric - a good aligned one is good to stat with because if you hold down shift when you've got the spell radial menu open all the spells turn into healing spells which can get you out of trouble. then for your four characters you want something like, a human fighter - melee focus, a halforc barbarian (with a high survival skill) maybe a ranger instead, a human fighter - ranged weapons focused, a monk - unarmed and with improved trip for flanking. melee focused characters are or can be fighter barbarian paladin ranger and to a lesser extent cleric druid monk rogue and maybe bard if you play him right. I played through the game many times with no magic users (well ones that were alive long enough to be any use anyway) beacuse I didn't know how to use them properly. So to practice with them you could just hire a couple from Hommlet.
I agree. Magic is all well and good, but Nothing beats a sword through the gut (or axe, or other pointy or bashy kinda object). I can't imagine I'd last very long playing a solo wizard or sorcerer. It just seems more effective to punch someone in the face than wiggle my fingers and shout arcane obsenities at them.
but the appropriately wiggled fingers coupled with the right obscenities can lead to a very pleasant result as well...elvicthr
Are there any skills that do not have many good opportunities to be used? Like in fallout some skills just sucked... And are there any feats or spells that simply do not work.
Well, Perform is worthless unless you're a bard. And Concentration is useless unless you're a caster and you're going to be casting spells in melee combat. And I can't think of any other useless skills right now. I really need to play ToEE again soon to refresh my memory. The best are Appraise, Bluff, Sense Motive, Diplomacy, Tumble. Those are good skills for Any character to have.
Do the NPC's that join my party add anything more than someone who fights? Like talking, quests, personality... Or should i just go ahead and make 8 of my own dudes? So give me an idea... None like in icewind dale. Almost none like in fallout, little in NWN original story, more in BG, Planescape... Get the idea? Because i Really like the idea of just making my own party of 8, unless it unbalances the game or i'm missing out on something. Do NPC's fight on their own. Or do you have to control them? Are 8 player created dudes too much? Oh and btw i'm in finals week. Soo i'm going home soon after the semester is over and will be using a different computer for the rest of my time before the mission. So i'm trying not to play the game because i will just have to start over. Its killin me because i love a good adventure. but is there a way to transfer save files?
NPCs do add things such as little quests and other odd tidbits of backstories. Worth having a play with in my view. You control the NPCs in combat. In a non-C08 version of the game, they do have an irritating habit of looting rather randomly which is why the humble NPCs crack should be enabled as it allows you to prevent them becoming encumbered with junk they pick up. Can't remember the exact locations of everything you need to transfer over save games as I'm not at home atm but it is very possible. Just remember you also need the characters to be moved across too. Good luck with your finals.
there are no worthless skills in my opinion, but they are pretty useless for some classes. as for feats, it also depends what you want to do with your character. the only feat that is a waste of time is improved counterspell besause counterspells are buged as far as I'm aware.
