I've seen elsewhere on this site concern over NPCs being too weak, and that PCs can easily kill them, such as Terjon in Hommlet. My answer would be to allow them to flee as a combat option just like the PCs can flee as a combat option. No need to bump up their stats and levels then to make them a match in a fight with the PC party. If the PCs are compared to the NPC, or NPCs (i.e the traders in Hommlet), and the NPC or NPCs determine that the PCs are too strong at the beginning of a round then when the NPC goes to act it attempts to flee instead. The PCs get one parting shot and that's it. The NPCs re-appear back at the place later when the PCs are gone, to be re-encountered again on another day. I add that next time they are encountered they should be prepared better. The traders or Terjon could have mercenaries, or guards, or dogs, etc to add extra protection, for example. These are ideas to make the NPCs less easy to bump off. When the NPCs flee they take whatever steps they need to heal themselves as well. In otherwords they don't just stay injured as when they fled. Does this idea help anyone trying to fix the game for the better (i.e. Livonya) ? What do others think of this ?
