I am in grad school and I want to make an extra $100 a week to help pay off loans. Normally this would not be a huge problem but I have a semi-unique situation. I have about 40 hours of school work a week, plus 20 hours of work for my department, so I dont have a ton of time. Also, I am contractually not allowed to have another job, so I cant have anything where my department might see me working, such as a waiter or a normal part time job. Therefore I need something that is quick and reliable. I am in a very small town, so there is no plasma donation center. Plasma would have helped out a ton since it repeatable and quick, but the closest center is 40-50 miles away. I have heard that online surveys are good, but I am worried to take them. I feel like they are the perfect method to get my personal info and be a victim of identity theft. I thought about trying to get a 3rd shift security job that would let me read/study and make money, but from craigslist it looks like those guys make only $8-9/hr. After taxes I would have to do two nights a week which I dont really want to do. So, does anyone have any good ideas?
Find a nice rich cougar and become her cabana boy for $5,000 a week. The down side to this is that you may have to do things you might find distasteful, like scraping the dead skin off her feet after they soak.
What ya going to school for? I heard of sites that solicit coders for "one time" projects. Security type jobs may actually work out well, I was able to do quite a bit of studying during college whils't working part time as a security guard at a local newspaper. Is there a local temp agency? Many companies pickup temp tech sppt ...
Necro - >like scraping the dead skin off her feet after they soak. I've done quite a bit of carpentry & was thinking you could try something like a palm sander or perhaps an angle grinder the next time you run into that kind of situation ( could save ya a week not having to soak 'm first )....
That was at least one coon's age ago ( 1993'sh ) - back then it was ~$7/hr US for armed guards at an armored car company & unarmed at that News Paper's main office ( they paid better than most ) so your estimate is probably on track. The unarmed guys working for various "rent a cop" agencies made a hair above minimum wage at most places. The news paper gig was a pretty sweet deal because the was nobody there at night so I could study as needed and it was low stress ( God knows college was bad enough ).
I just realized that I am a decent drummer. I might be able to do a cover band once a week and pull in some $. I booked cover bands when I used to live in Miami so I am pretty sure I could do it for myself. Now I just need to find a drum set
It's interesting that you mention that specifically because there's a cover band up here that has become quite popular because all they do is covers of all the old rock stuff. The bands's called Hairball and they are quite busy all of the time. I bet they got 2 years of schedule lined up, lol. Hell, maybe if you are good, you can spiral it into being a rock star and foregoing your law degree or whatever. I don't know many lawyers that have mobs of women groupies wherever they go! You could be the next John Bonham or Keith Moon.
Cover bands can make bank. In Chicago there is a band that makes $2000+ a gig with 5 members. In Miami I was booking a band for $500 a night and I got 10% as their agent. We had an attractive singer so getting in the door was not hard when I showed her picture. One time they played a new bar and the owner loved them so much he booked them for the next 10 weeks. Easiest $500 I ever made.
Problem solved! Glad we could help. What sort of music were you thinking of (or, being a job just for money, does it not matter?) How about someone who survived?
