First attempt: I figured he was immune to everything and buggy (he managed to cause fear on the Paladin)... And got my ass handed to me so hard that I fell down from the chair with it. Second attempt (just a load game, no resting, no editing equipment). I positioned my ranger and my ranged rogue around the demon, and tried to bash it ONLY with the Paladin (that had the appropriate weapon that could damage it). Failed when I did several positioning issues that I think it is more culprit of the engine than me (example: had to heal paladin, healer moved in, healed the paladin, almost died, thus I had to move it out of the demon range, so I used withdraw on one turn to mode to the edge without taking a AoO, then the next turn I used 5-foot step to move outside the range, then I checked and the yellow circles were not overlapping, then I tried to use a potion... BAM, demon do a AoO that does 80 of damage and the character has 50 of HP max...) Third attempt, same as second. Failed because I could not hit it. Fourth attempt, same as second, but this time using Scather... The demon this time lost so hard I bet he was wondering what train hit him. And then the game crashed. ¬¬ This game is the Temple of Elementary Bugs. Also I am very tempted to just use a editor to set Scather damage to 20d10 or something like that just so I don't need to have this fight again :/
The game possibly crashing to desktop the instant that you kill the Balor Guardian is a known issue. It has happened to me too. You'll just have to persevere and keep redoing the combat until the game doesn't crash when you kill the Balor Guardian. It doesn't crash that often, so it's no big deal when you are only fighting 1 Balor Guardian - fighting 4 Balor Guardians is a different story, however! I suspect that the possible CTD the instant when the Balor Guardian dies is caued by either: 1. the Fire Gem spawning on the ground where the Balor Guardian dies: or 2. at least one of the characters in your party still being dominated by the Balor Guardian when the Balor Guardian dies. Make sure that none of the characters in your party are dominated at the instant that you kill the Balor Guardian. Cast the spell Break Enchantment on any of the characters in your party that are dominated by the Balor Guardian.
it's done that to me too. I say, if you've taken it down legit, next time cheat like a Queensland referee. You've got nothing to prove by redoing it 10 times. I have to add though, you're familiar with the problems using Scather on this critter causes?
Good point to remind folks about Scather. I still forget. Will keep an extra weapon on the person using Scather. Scather will cause crash on Balor Demon and Fire Salamanders. I am playing mod version 8 and for the first time Scather caused a crash on the Slaver fight. I reloaded twice and crashed twice when using the sword. I played almost all the mods from the beginning over the last couple of years and probably used scather on at least 3 to 5 of the mods and that crash never happened before with the slavers. Was repost/feedback attack given to some of the slaver characters on a recent mod?
The Frostbrand+3 is always a good backup weapon if you don't have a holy one handy- or are playing an evil alignment...
I was NOT using scather when I killed him first time (I used Melany's father sword +3) The second time I did used Scather setting it to 10d10 Still I had to try twice (the first attempt some weird crits happened and half of my team was dead, not unconscious, in the third turn). Also Scather 10d10 against balor still did pitiful damage, not much more than a non-cheat Melany father sword, I guess because most of the damage he takes is holy.
