How do you use an Ioun stone?

    How do you use an Ioun stone? I know in other games I've played you placed them where your helm was, but I can't seem to figure out which slot to place it.

    They work as familiars do. You just have to have them
    in the inventory. Check for yourself, take the one that
    gives you +2 to dexterity and you'll see.

    Frankly, I'd rather have them as equipable headgear. A lot cooler than anything else already in the game! :p

    Well according to the rules they should float over
    ones head but this shouldn't prevent one from wearing
    a helmet. Although in terms of balance it would be handy
    if they'd act as helmets. One wouldn't be able to get too
    many bonuses at one time.

    I just think it would be awesome to see one of those spinning around a character's head instead of just putting a boring-looking helmet on.

    You people have no idea... :p

    A mighty war was fought here at Co8, long ago, over the issue of where Ioun stones go. It was in that war I first took up arms as a modder, actually. Lines were drawn, artillery spotted, trumpets sounded. The skirmishes turned to affrays, the affrays to battles, the battles to total war.

    When the dust cleared and the dead were buried, we decided to just leave them in the backpack.

    Now please never mention this again.

    drop the subject, and step away from that topic of conversation.

    Seriously if your interested in the backstory in this little conflict, Ioun stones used to be equipped in the thieves tools slot (which upset those who wanted to use them for thier rogues), we considered changing it to the bardic instrument slot (but bards would get screwed in the same way the rogues were), the Helmet slot was a serious contender (but I didn't like it like that :p), so I made them usable from the inventory which is actually as close as RAW as possible, because stones of different types on the same person should (and in this case do) each add thier bonuses to thier wielder.

    Well, I just have one question for this: How hard would it be to actually make the stones in a player's inventory circle around their head, like it's supposed to in the PnP?

    But seriously, I guess that's quite reasonable. ;)

    About Dragoon's question... Hmmm I think the only
    way would be some kind of a spell effect that would
    resemble a floating stone (dunno if we have any).
    This however would require the item to be equipped.

    you guys weren't here for the 0rion Wars or the Ioun Wars and a lot of the Alignment Conflits or even the Goblin Wars or is that Orc Wars. We lost some good moders in those battles.

    They do have one - the Magic Stone anim, but you have to be quick to see it as it only fires once, as soon as a character is given an Ioun Stone.
