I've looked here and tried puttering a little bit, but I can't figure out how to move spells around in the game. What if I want to make fireball a 1st level cleric spell or bless an eigth level mage spell, or whatever? I tried changing values in data\rules\spelllist.mes, but nothing happened. Someone mentioned fiddling with the TXT files in data\rules\spells, but there are only a handful there. What about the ton of spells not there?
You need to extract the dat files, you can use Zane's ToEEextract or Agetian's DatTool to do this, both are available in the download section of the forum.
Thanks! Now I can go about creating my home-rules spell tables! Yay! (Although it will mean starting a new game.) :'( EDIT: Two more questions. If I completely revamp the whole spell list, how will this affect NPCs? If, for example, I make fireball a druid only spell, what would happen to wizards? Would they lose the spell? Would they keep it but not be able to cast it? Would they ignore my changes and cast normally? Also, is there a way to alphabetize the spells in the left-hand side of a caster's list? Since I'm going to be going through them all anyways, I might as well ask before I start.
You can organise the files by name (the numbers are more or less aranged by the spell's alphbetical order). Most monsters will still cast thier spells normally, no idea about what happens to NPC's, NPC's who can join your group may loose access to thier spells, or they might miscast the spells they no longer have access to (if they're not in the group).
Thanks again Allyx. Modding those spells was easier than I thought it would be. Time-consuming, but easy. I am now enjoying a game with spell tables the way I feel they should be. Yay!
Can this dattool als been used for extracting dat files from other games ? So I would have the chance to get portraits from Age of Wonders for my ToEE
Dunno  Try it and see, and let us know. If you do a search for DAT tools, though, I think you will find another fella advertised his for a while here too - I don't know anyone used it, but it may be worth checking out. [Ted does it himself] - yeah, check this threads: http://www.co8.org/forum/showthread.php?t=5995&highlight=tool
